Thought it would handy to have this around now that everyone's picking up Shiren and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2. Fushigi no Dungeon goes all the way from 1993 to present times; things like Chocobo's Dungeon and Taloon's Great Adventure, as well as the previously mentioned. They're all rogue-likes, and though a lot of the game seems like luck, there is quite a bit of skill involved as well. So it's a "surprises around every corner, but don't panic; you should know what to do" deal. Or at least, that was the message I was getting.
Now, I have a question about the original Fushigi no Dungeon: what are those large statues you randomly see on some levels?

I've been a fan of these games since Namco released Nightmare of Druaga over here. I loved it and went on and purchased Pokemon: MD and Torneko. Sadly, the latter never worked with the copy I had. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the NA release of Wii Chocobo's Dungeon in July. These games are tons of fun and always keep me coming back. I have no desire for the new Pokemon: MD game because the first one is all I need. I'm not completely sure how many version of Fushigi I can take but I still say bring em on.
BTW, is it true that in Shiren DS, when you die they send your stats back to level 1? I read that in the latest EGM and I think that is a little too excessive. This is coming from someone who loves shmups and hard difficulty.

Yes. In that regard, it's closer to a true roguelike than the rest of the newer Chunsoft games... there's the rescue mechanic if you really really don't want to lose that run. The game is balanced around being played in that style - you either clear the game, or you start over (though there is the warehouse, so there is some persistence between runs.)steveovig wrote:BTW, is it true that in Shiren DS, when you die they send your stats back to level 1? Shiren DS is extremely hard unless you resort to using an Action Replay. Which.. heh, I know someone who ended up doing this after they lost their +45 Kabra's Blade (second best weapon in the game). It's basically like this:steveovig wrote:BTW, is it true that in Shiren DS, when you die they send your stats back to level 1? If you visit the first town, all money, items and equipment are removed and reset. If you die, the same thing happens. If you don't save, the same thing happens. The only protection you have against losing your items is by storing them in a Storehouse.
Even then, it's stored at the storehouse you visited, and not the first one. The only way you can get back to Camyon Hamlet with all your gear is if you actually beat the game.
I like the rescue ability though. If you don't have wifi, you can use passwords with others (like.. at gamefaqs), and if you do have wifi, you just put your rescue request up and check back in a day or two, and hopefully someone will lend a helping hand. But that depends on where you are in the game, so most people won't rescue you on really high levels.
If I had access to cheating at the game I probably would, if only to help others out with rescues and stuff.
