Dreamcast DC-X ... download??

Post by lifesonsrv »

I've been trying forever crazy to play Dreamcast imports through a VGA box. Supposedly Utopia v1.2 is VGA enabled, but I've downloaded and burned it more than a few times now, and every time I try it I get nothing but audio and a black screen.
I heard from a few people that DC-X is 100% VGA enabled, but I can't find it anywhere. Been trying a torrent, but it stalls at 37% every time, like clockwork. Maybe a seeder? (I don't even know exactly what the hell a seeder is) If anyone at all has any help/info for my clueless ass, I'd be too thankful for words.

The utopia disc WILL boot VGA imports, but you won't be able to see the "load disc now" screen since the program itself isn't VGA. LOL. Just boot it, wait awhile, then swap discs.

I've been using Utopia v1.2, and I can boot games from it no problem, but when they do boot, its just audio, and there's no video at all. (yes the games i'm using are VGA compatible) I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, or what... but I've been screwin around with Utopia for a few days now and have all but given up on that route, that's why I'm asking about DC-X now.

Etrian, I'd be eternally grateful, and you'd be alleviating a lot of frustration for me if you're able to upload DC-X.

For the price of buying a Gameshark, you could buy an entire Dreamcast and region mod it like hattasken pointed out above so you can get VGA without any disc swapping at all :)

Gameshark is made by Interact, if I'm not mistaken. I promised myself I'd never buy anything made by those hacks ever again, after one of their memory cartridges destroyed my Saturn. I can't think of one single product from them that I've bought, that I've been completely satisfied with, so fuck Interact.

I saw that other page hattasken, cool trick. I have a bunch of games from different regions though, so I'd still need to be swapping discs a lot. I'm too accident prone to be messing around with hot objects anyhow

Thanks for the replies, though!

You know what, I actually do have another DC in the closet. Maybe I should burn the crap outta myself, after all. It would be nice to not have to screw around with boot discs.

From the rules:
"No ISO trading, ROM begging, bootlegging, modchip sales, copyright infringement, or assistance with any of these – for example warez FTP site details. It doesn't matter what is legal in your country, there are no exceptions to this rule – although discussion of emulation is not a problem."

DC-X is a commercial product.

DC Codebreaker is not made by Interact ( I think it's Pelican). So buy one of those, instead. As a bonus, it uses its own dedicated Cheat database VMU save, and doesn't require a dongle like the Gameshark does.

Pass. It's still possible to buy:

Even if it wasn't though, it wouldn't change the rules on the matter.

Wasn't there an open source DC boot disk?
