I just got a an original Japanese version of Visco's 1996 Storm Blade PCB a couple weeks back from a fellow shmupper. It is in flawless condition and looks to be in super minty condition for it's age. It has matching serial numbers on both the SSV motherboard and game board itself. I'm very impressed overall with how clean this PCB really is. Playing with an actual PCB of Storm Blade compared to with Mame/Mame32 emulation, I'd gladly take the PCB version any ol' day... ^_~
Since it came to me as a barebones PCB, I was wondering what the Dip Switch settings for such a Storm Blade PCB are?
And are there any high-res Storm Blade arcade paperworks to download as well?
I was told by another fellow shmupper that such a Storm Blade PCB is comprised of an Sammy SSV motherboard (the top PCB portion) and the actual game cartridge (the bottom PCB portion). Interesting setup, by the way, and reminds me of how a Seibu Kaihatsu SPI mobo + SPI cartridge layout is implemented...
During normal gaming sessions of Storm Blade, I've noticed that the sound effects take priority over the BGM tunes playing in the background. Would've been nice to have such an option to decrease such sound effects and increase BGM tunes to user's personal tastes to appreciate the BGM fully during actual gameplay. Sure, there's the Sound Test option to listen to such BGM tunes seperately.
I couldn't help notice that it seemed that some sound effects reminded me of the classic Kaneko's Air Buster PCB's sound effects. Did such PCB staff who worked on Air Buster work on Storm Blade PCB as well?

I've noticed some slight differences between the original JPN version & later released USA version of Storm Blade PCB:
JPN ver. -- one can credit feed till the very end of the 2nd loop and still continue at the very same spot upon dying on the very last life...
USA ver. -- one has to go back to the beginning of Stage 5 and thereafter if last life expires and is continued...
JPN ver. -- Character voices are presented in Japanese...
USA ver. -- Character voices have been removed and the kanji script has been replaced with all-English language text instead...
JPN ver. -- Auto Fire capability option is selected on-board the PCB via Dip Switch settings...
USA ver. -- Auto Fire isn't setup and must use hidden auto-fire easter-egg trick to enable it during normal gaming sessions...
-----------------------------
What other SSV-based arcade game titles were released besides the three known SSV games listed below?
Storm Blade - 1996 Visco
Pachinko Sexy Reaction - 1998 Sammy
Pachinko Sexy Reaction 2 - 1999 Sammy
Thanks in advance for your help...

I know it's not for the JP version, but this might provide a starting point for guessing what the dips are in your version:PC Engine Fan X! wrote:I just got a an original Japanese version of Visco's 1996 Storm Blade PCB a couple weeks back from a fellow shmupper. Storm Blade Dip Switch settings (US Version)
Also, try playing the JP version in MAME. The dips ought to be well-documented there.
