Glad to see our suggestions after last year's poll had some influence and the voting system was improved :)

I think some people need to read how the "scoring" is working this go round.

But yeah, good job on changing that. I think this year's results will be much more interesting because of it.

In general, they should. I think everyone has it right so far (point distribution, some still must screw up the formatting).

Also, there goes Stargate.

I was the first one to screw up, I admit. :P

Fortunately, I realized my mistake shortly after submitting the post.

Cute em up talk from last year:
CIT wrote:Re: Cute 'Em Up Affirmative Action

We should vote for Twinkle Star Sprites. But not because it's a cute 'em up, but because it has one of the most unique and fun gameplay innovations in a shooter, ever. :)
This is a fabulous idea! Fans of cute em ups (cups?), PVP, and "cats in shmup" unite!

I saw this after I posted in the voting thread. Space Giraffe is listed under "What's New?" but then there's this:
Herr Schatten wrote:07) No Borderliners! Stuff that's off-limits generally include: "run-and-gun" (think Contra or Metal Slug); on-rails/into-the-screen shooters (Rez, Panzer Dragoon, Space Harrier, etc.). Stuff like Space Invaders and Galaga are OK.
So I assume that was a mistake at the top and SG shouldn't be eligible? My list would be a lot different if these games were allowed, heh.

Oh duh, stuff like Space Invaders and Galaga are ok? I shoulda listed Swoop, even if I am probably the only person on this forum who's played it. Best Galaga clone ever.

On a seperate note. I can understand Rob voting for Guwange... But Dodonpachi: Dai Ou Jou? Dude... Are you ok? You got a fever?

Haha, I've voted for it 4 years in a row. I like it for non-scoring play only.

This might be a mistake I made. I don't own a 360, so I don't have first hand experience with Space Giraffe, but from what I saw in videos, I assumed Space Giraffe played a lot like Tempest, which is on-topic, as it's a tube shooter and not 'on rails'.

Feel free to correct me, though. If Space Giraffe is thought to be too much of a borderliner, I'll remove it from the "What's new" list.

btw, I like the new "assign in a range from 1 to 25" rule, Schatten. You can still give more weight to a particular game without seeing weird stuff like:

I'm wondering why games like Space Invaders and Galaga are allowed. Wouldn't those be considered slide & glides?

Hmm.. Looking at the previous list and thinking of the rule that I should be genuinly familiar with 95% etc. I really can't decide if I qualify. I'm right on the border but I feel maybe I fall just short, so I might just closely observe this and wait until next years to actually vote...

To vote, you should know Nexzr. ;)

BTW, votes for Nexzr and Summer Carnival '93 should be considered the same.

Actually you made no mistake, I just didn't realize that while rail shooters were unallowed, tube shooters were allowed. They are very similar in my mind. Thanks for the explanation.

Ok, I gotta edit my list now. Byebye Forgotten Worlds :(

08) You must vote for exactly 25 games, no more, no less. If you can't come up with 25 games, chances are you're not experienced enough (see below) to vote anyway. If you can't limit yourself to 25 games, that's just bad luck, I guess. Consider viewing the agonizing experience of cutting down your list to 25 as a lesson in self-disipline.
lets choose games that we hate
great idea
lets also choose games we have no experience with

Votes need to be in the following format:
- one game per line
- first thing on line: the integer score to assign to the game (1 to 25), in brackets
- second thing on line: a space
- final thing on line before hitting enter: name of the game, in brackets

Some Examples:

[25] [Brilliant Bronzerifle]
[25] [DoReMiPachi]
[25] [Battle Parkinglot]

would be the same as

[1] [Brilliant Bronzerifle]
[1] [DoReMiPachi]
[1] [Battle Parkinglot]

because every game would get the same share of the user's vote, but in this example:

[25] [Battle Parkinglot]
[3] [Brilliant Bronzerifle]
[1] [DoReMiPachi]
so one person doing 25 garegga and RFJ vs another person doing 1 DDP = 3 way tie between the three games?

I'm also not getting how one person's scores are compared to another person's.
shoe-sama wrote:so one person doing 25 garegga and RFJ vs another person doing 1 DDP = 3 way tie between the three games?
You need to pick the rest of the values for both people; the first person could have assigned [25] to every game, and the second person could've assigned [1] to every game as well. That would be a three way tie, but it most likely won't turn out that way.

I agree with the question's premise, however.

Basically, it looks like all you can do is heavily weight certain games or others, but I don't understand how one person's selections are being matched against somebody else's.

For example, [certain person's] first choice is a 25, their second choice is a 24, and on down the line without any heed paid to "how much better is this game or that." Then somebody else puts their favorite game at [25] and their other games at [1] - does this mean that the number of 25s are added up? Personally, I'd be inclined to do that because I enjoy many games about the same. But then that doesn't make sense because we're told that putting out a bunch of [25]s is the same as putting out [1] or whatever depending on what you put below.

Each person has equal voting power. If someone gives one game 25 points and 24 games 1s that'd be 49 total points. 25 of 49 would be a little over half of the person's total vote. The other examples would have less retarded/even/gradual distribution. The new 25 point cap is just preventing Stargate fans from giving 99.9999% of their vote to one game (Stargate).
