SoundLab - OKTA-BITS is a 45 minutes long collection of 13 chiptunes, created by the independant polish scene musicians connected with the SoundLab (sndlab.com) vortal.
My thought exactly, but nope.
They've used modern software, like VST: FL Studio and other mostly freeware stuff with plugins that generate the C64/NES soundwave, like magical8bitplug3, unknown64pro, etc.
That's a shame. After listening to it a bit more, it's obvious through the amount of tracks used on each song, as well as some of the modulation. Still, a good album.
You sound disappointed now
Well, as they've said on the main site, all they wanted is to stop & turn back time to the 8bit era, when music actually had a melody.
If you ask me, they did succed at it. Those tunes perfectly fit the mood of the 8bit chiptune convention, with some incredibly nostalgic melodies.
