Akihabara may have all kind of electronical stuff, but if she just want an iPod, camera and stuff like that she can just go to any "Bikku Camera". There's one at almost all the big stations, including Ikebukuro. She could just ask around, because everyone know where it is.

I'm in Itabashi too. :)

Akihabara is legendary for arcade scene, electronics galore, video games and anime...for the okatu. ^_~

Your friend must check out Akihabara at least once while she's in Japan -- she won't regret it. It's possible to haggle prices down if she's fluent in Japanese... ^_~

I checked out Akihabara three times during my stay in Japan over eight years ago & it still wasn't enough time to check out that it all had to offer...

I think she would. It sounds like she's not into that.
Ikebukuro
There's a huge Bic Camera (zap - you should spell it properly for someone that's visiting) in Ikebukuro that will fulfill her needs. More in Shinjuku. Generally, those shops offer a point system, where you get X% back when you buy money. Akihabara doesn't have that, but has cheaper prices. It kind of evens out. Akihabara is the other side of town from Ikebukuro. If she's not into the whole geek thing, it's definitely not worth the time.

In Akihabara she does have the chance of buying duty free though. Doubtful in other parts of town.
