Tell me about: Capcom Generation 1 PSX

Post by Rob79 »

Hi, I have a chance to buy this game. How is it ?
Graphics ? Sound ? Gameplay ?
Are the games a direct arcade port ?
I love the 19xx series !!

Does it play the same as this ?

It's a GAME! It has GAMES on it!

MREEEEEEEEEH!!

seriously though use google + the search

if you're looking for specific information about how well the games are emulated on this, you still need to use the search first ;)

On the first page of Google links:
http://www.gamespot.com/saturn/action/c ... eview.html
Wrong system, but there it is.

Had to trip over a bunch of torrents and stuff (if you wanted to, y'know, try before you buy ;)

Edit: When I narrowed my search to 'capcom generations 1 playstation' (no quotes) I got this first:

http://psx.ign.com/objects/497/497737.html

It has screenshots! Your eyes don't lie!

FWIW, I just did a search with "Capcom Generations" and checked "all terms". Four pages and nothing relevant. Our search does suck.

I think Generations has Tate mode which makes Generations > CCC, if you have the means.

(CCC=Capcom Classics Collection)

I don't think Generations has the bonus content that CCC has.

No Tate in the screenshots, naturally. Plus IGN is slow as molasses.

Anyone who actually has this want to chime in??

I realized that after your first post. I was biting my nails in anticipation of my failings being revealed! ;)

Edit: It also won't help for sound emulation. Doubt they have a video up...but that's what Youtube is for.

The ports on Capcom Generation 1 are basically exactly the same ports that are on Capcom Classic Collection Vol. 1. The only real differences, are...

- CG1 has TATE mode for the three shmups, where CCC1 doesn't.
- CG1 doesn't use filtering on the other two screen modes, so there's a lot of "swimming". CCC1 using filtering.

If TATE is important to you, get the CG1 version. If you couldn't care less about TATE, and want a lot more games with those three shmups for likely considerably less, get CCC1.

Yeah, you got it. Couldn't be:

-not bothering to search for threads when there are threads
-the fucking ! punctuation !
-making these threads every other day

How about playing some shit and reading threads. If all he's going to do is post youtube links there's the youtube thread.

It's tough to describe. It happens in games that shrink the screen from 100% resolution, to something like 90% or less, without the use filtering. Some lines of horizontal and vertical pixels are squished out of sight, and you get this strange effect as the background scrolls by. The Saturn version of the two "Pachi" games, Kyuukyoku Tiger II Plus, and other vertical shmups, have this effect when played in Yoko mode.

not that i am necessarily disagreeing with you Rob, but you seem to have taken a distinctly codgerly turn in the past few months. :)

and your cloned profile was funny, because i was reading a thread and seeing that username "rob" was having an argument with himself.

seriously, though Rob.'s name name needs changing.
I have no sig whatsoever.

Yeah, I need to stop checking shmups chat threads. There just isn't anything worthwhile outside of EGM reviews.

Rob(no dot!) - you have every right to be pissed you got your named pinched after being such a prominent member, and I think your parody of your dotty namesake's avatar is fuckin' genius! That little dot down in the corner is a masterwork!

However, in support of the rob-robbing rob-dot, the search function here is pretty bad and takes a while to get used to. And tearing people apart for that seems a little harsh. This is mostly such a friendly place!

One moment, I've just gotta pull this fence panel out of my arse...

And finally, if you like 19xx this is a very reasonable port. Better than CCC methinks...

I have this image in my head of Rob being this huge Alaskan bear who wakes up every morning going ROARRR, MY HEAD!, before logging onto shmups and venting his anger on all who frustrate him.

Bless.

I'm a big fan of yours Rob, but you scare me! Though your old avatar always made me think that maybe in real life you're just a big old friendly metaler....

Dude, are you actually taking time out of your day to pull me up on typo's? I'm at work, I'm busy, and I don't always have the luxury of time to write precise posts.

Surely there are more effective ways to prove your sig carries some weight. :?

I had not noticed all the extra dots in the sig/avatar/location. Excellent stuff.

Ceph is fortunate to have a super-power of writing grammatically correct forum posts with no additional time expense in the compositional stage.

I can write without typos without thinking about it much, but I do spend a lot of time proofreading and making revisions before the final submission. It usually only involves rearranging the sentence structure to get it juuuuust right though.

Nah, I often mistype and have to edit my posts. I just thought it was funny that case and contraction were exactly reversed. Sometimes, little things like that amuse me.
This wasn't about Skykid making a mistake.

Thanks iatneH, I was just ticked off that I asked a question and got that as an answer.
We're all capable of gramatically correct posts, and I happen to think my English skills are fairly decent.

I appreciate typo's can be annoying if you're a stickler for grammar - which I guess I could accuse myself of being at times.

Either way, thread de-rail - lets drop it.

Can anyone help me with the original question? :?:

(btw no hard feelings Ceph, that's not why I'm here. )
