I wish. I did a quick search on the internet and apparently it doesn't exist anymore.CMoon wrote:Acid King> Why not go all the way and get the MerzCar?
Anders of Releasing Eskimo:
"A while ago I had a Mercedes 230 that I didn't drive much. The police
told me that I had to move it or they'd tow it away. Well, I didn't
want to keep it and I didn't have anywhere to store it so I decided
to use it for something else. I rigged the car's CD player with our
latest release of Merzbow's "Noise Embryo" CD so that the music
started when the car was turned on and it was impossible to turn it
off. I put it up for sale as an extremely limited edition of the
"Noise Embryo" CD but no one ever bought it, and in the end the car
broke down. So we took out the CD and got rid of the car. Now I'm
thinking about if it's possible to release a record in a Boeing
747..."
Shipping to America would have been a bitch.

Yeah, people hate them. Death metal, like every sub division of metal and punk, can be very cliquey. To me, they embody everything I like about death metal, and they serve it up in a completely no-nonsense, and technically superb manner. For some reason, people think this is a bad thing. This is why I stear clear of music forums.
Personally, I think Hate Eternal is boring. I've seen a lot more praise for them than criticism but maybe that's because I just read reviews, not forums.
Boris w/ Merzbow - Sun Baked Snow Cave
Atrax Morgue - Sickness Report - Watching Zombi made me want to listen to squishy synth noise.

They're not really death metal... least I wouldn't call them that. But yeah, they're great. They're the forebears to a lot of techy newer bands but don't get much credit because few people have really listened to them.JoshF wrote:While we're talking about death metal, is Human Remains any good?

One worry I have is that they can be a bit monotonous over the length of an album, though they have a nice sound and seem technically expert. Perhaps they're best for a single here and there. But this impression is based on very little evidence. Must listen more.Acid King wrote:Personally, I think Hate Eternal is boring.
That criticism I saw was at Metal Archives, where their grading scale is 5-10% or 93-98% and they were split between the two. I think one of the guys in the band has short hair.
Yeah, the ideal length for this type of metal album is 25-30 minutes (it's 40). I'll probably just listen to a half at a time.professor ganson wrote: One worry I have is that they can be a bit monotonous over the length of an album, though they have a nice sound and seem technically expert.

Yeah, check out that album that isn't legitimately available! Go! (it is indeed great, at least in parts!)charlie chong wrote:terry riley pissed on both of them...

As seems the trend, the best things by Riley are the hardest to get. While Rainbow in Curved Air, Shri Camel and even the Poppy no-good band album are easy to get, the best yet is Persian Surgery Dervishes, which is now terribly hard to come by. Figures.
And yeah, Reich--what a pain in the ass. Make sure you actually get his original recordings and not the wall paper performances by the chronos quartet. There's actually a very modestly priced box set of the later I'd avoid.
Edit: While we're at it, go pick some Angus MacLise for some of the real deal (or maybe some Tony Conrad? the one with Faust is truly great.)
