I seriously doubt it will be the last. I think that Rajirugi might be the last; at least I hope that it will get a DC port. And then there's that as-yet-unamed shmup from the Native folks.
In short, as long as companies like these are willing to make shmups on Naomi GD-ROM hardware, I wouldn't be predicting an end to the DC's life span just yet.

It's too bad that none of Sammy's Atomiswave developers seem interested in making shmups (or porting AW games to DC -- Wouldn't that be a decent way to test the waters for ports to other consoles?).
Actually, I'm having this weird feeling that everybody should make shmups. Shmups are great, and I don't think that I could get enough. Maybe I'll be humming a different tune, once I've been around them as long as you guys...
Back on-topic; I myself thought that it would be highly unlikely for the DC to see releases of any kind in 2005, with InterChannel dropping out and Type-X emerging and all. Later in 2004, I checked the database at sega.jp/dc, and noted how even though I thought that '04 was good, the releases had drastically dropped off in comparison to even 2003. Now, things for this year are looking quite surprising to me. I'm still floored by all of the lasting support for the NAOMI! In my opinion, G.rev could make 2005 another "best year ever" like 2003, when their own Border Down hit the scene and got me here in the first place.

Personally, I'm not too impressed with what I've played of Sammy's Atomswave hardware, compared to Naomi.
About 2 weeks ago, I got the chance to meet some friends at a place here in Denver called Fat City, that actually has a REAL arcade! In any case, there was an Atomswave cab. that had the game Maximum Speed on it.
This game looked like crap compared to Sega's Outrun 2. The scenery was decent enough, but the cars-they looked like they were transplanted out of Virtua Racer!
The only Atomswave game that impresses me in the least is Dolphin Blue, and Sammy seems content never to port that one to any console.
Pretty sad and scary that this is the company that now owns Sega.

Oh, right right! I forgot to add my other mention, 'it would also be nice if more developers besides "Sammy's Group of Friends" supported the AW, for that matter.' I suppose that not much may come of it, though, since if the general consensus is that the NAOMI should be retired, then, the lesser AW is probably far from the minds of most developers that many would be interested in, here at least.dave4shmups wrote:Personally, I'm not too impressed with what I've played of Sammy's Atomswave hardware, compared to Naomi.
Then again, there could be some small developers out there, and if the licensing is reasonable enough, perhaps we could see some shmups similar to those being developed independently for PC...
I agree with you on the AW titles, though. Dolphin Blue seemed like the most interesting to me also, although I haven't played... any of them. It does seem as though the AW has not taken off as well as expected, so, I suppose that we probably won't see any shmups on the platform.
(Oh, wait. I just remembered SNK's titles for the system, so I suppose that there's a little bit of third-third party support. That's OT, though.)

I'm really sorry for bringing this oldish topic up, but instead of making a new pointless thread which most do I thought it might be easier to put into this thread. I know theres a couple of Naomi shmups coming up so I was wondering does anyone know if they're likely to get the DC port treatment?
Under Defeat - G Rev
RADIRGY - Milestone
These are the only two shooters I know of that are in Naomi development maybe I'm wrong (I think I heard read somewhere Trianle might be doing something also)? So does anyone nkow if they're going to the DC also?

That's what people seem to like to think, but if you look on the official page, it seems that MileStone themselves spell it as "Radilgy." I like to use the shorthand "Radi," myself.Stormwatch wrote:Isn't "Radiology" the best romanization?

As for the games--I think that there's a pretty good chance that Radi will go to DC. I remember contacting MileStone way back, to tell them about how much I was looking forward to the release of Chaos Field, and they wrote back very quickly, and it was neat to see how open they were to international interest! It doesn't necessarily mean that it will be so, but if a port of Radi to DC wouldn't be of too much trouble and they know that it will be easily-accessible, it seems likely that they'll...
gingerj, be nice. Stormwatch was writing about a possible loan word behind "RAJIRUGI."

G-rev is apparently making another shmup on Naomi-GD hardware.
I'm not talking about Senko de Ronde either.

Atomiswave is still Dreamcast-based anyway.Cthulhu wrote:I sort of want companies to move on to another generation of hardware as well, but so far I've only seen one Type-X game that looked any good at all (Raiden III) and zero impressive Atomiswave games. Bleh. I'm willing to chalk it up to "growing pains" with the new hardware sets though...
Why do you want new hardware if developers aren't pushing it in the slightest and it can be done on already established hardware?Cthulhu wrote:I sort of want companies to move on to another generation of hardware as well, but so far I've only seen one Type-X game that looked any good at all (Raiden III) and zero impressive Atomiswave games. Whoooooa!Recap wrote:That word's sound and kana is different to this game's name, which seems to refer to RADIo + eneRGY.
...?
That's the best theorized explanation I've read thus far, but the "L" in MileStone's romanization of the kana sort of throws it out. It might be more plausible if they spelled their name in their logo as "MireStone."

Perhaps you can discover the answer here:The Bullet Dodger wrote:Is it worth the $60?

Not really. They're just transliterating a (new) word written in kana, no matter its origins, and for a Japanese, there're no differences between using the L and using the R in this case, while there are in the 'Milestone' case.icepick wrote:

If you ask me, the most correct transliteration for now is the straight one: "Rajirugi".
