pseudo-psikyo
Please use this thread to list (and/or discuss) games not by Psikyo that are clearly inspired by Psikyo.
I'll start:
Wyvern/Wivern Wings - haven't tried it yet, but apparently it's a 2004 Psikyo spin-off, playable in MAME

There are some similarities to Psikyo games therein (the orange bullets, "collect it when it's shiny" score items, etc.), but in terms of overall "feel" I'd say that the Vasaras are quite different from Psikyo's stuff - a ways less "oldschool" in terms of memorization, fast bullets, big hitboxes, etc., they feel more "modern" to me than anything Psikyo ever released.crithit5000 wrote:Vasara 1 and 2 are basically Psikyo games with a reflect mechanic.

Strikers 1945+... ok, it is Psikyo but at times it feels like they had a child with Cave or something.
I would also classify the Raiden Fighters series as being sorta Psikyo-esque.

Oh, I should check out Rapid Hero. Thunder Dragon 2 is really nice.captain ahar wrote:rapid hero was fun, never played it before.
apparently, some of the same team made a game called Thunder Dragon 2. the japanese version claims the honor of spouting "Goddamn you" when you are shot down (or so it sounds like)

i thought thunder dragon 2 was the japanese version.LGB wrote: There's a Japanese version? Is that Big Bang?
edit: and ganson, Rapid Hero really is worth a shot. plays pretty fast and for a 15 year old shooter the scores can get pretty elevated.
for point of reference to current topic (Psikyo):
most of the shooters psikyo made in this time period (1993-1995) stage 6 starting score runs between 400,000 (Sengoku Ace) and 550,000 (strikers 1945).
it seems totally possible to get the low end (SA) by end st.3 or very early st.4 of Rapid Hero. and that's where things really pick up, so total score would shoot up quite a bit. considering max point value of medals is 10,000. and picking up weapons when maxed is 5,000. i would also imagine there is a handsome reward for picking up bombs on a full stock, but i haven't played it too much.
oh my go that was long.
