I think it is extremely amusing that nobody gives a crap about this.
They rather play need for speed or burnout or whatever.
Forza2 is probably the closest contender.
I ordered it and it will arive hopefully before christmas. I can't find any useful info on the net anywhere. You could probably buy the download version by buying playstation network tickets from ebay or something or use wirecard.com, but that seems very hard. I can't wait. I'll report back to you

Gran turismo > need for speed
Burnout > need for speed

GT always looks nice but gameplay wise it's a sim.... and I HATE racing sims. That's why it never does anything for me. I like to look at it and have tried several times to get into it but I find it boring to play. I want power slides and speed.... done in an arcade racer kinda way. not saying GT is bad, but just not for me.

Tinkering in menus forever and earning money to buy/improve cars does nothing for me. I want the total experience to be me, a controller and 4 wheels racing and not much else. If i get extra shit I want it to be unlocked via races/challenge, not racing over and over again to earn money.

I like stuff like Daytona USA, Super GT/Scud Race, Outrun 2/SP, Initial D, Ridge Racer, Sega Rally ect.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I am very much the same. The graphics look nice but the GT franchise needs a slightly more approachable system of advancing to keep you interested.

The time wasted on menu sucks indeed. But my 2 biggest gripes with the GT games are the completely stupid AI (everyone knows that by now), and the fact the game barely punishes you by crashing. Your car can't take damage, sometimes you don't even lose speed... it's really funny on 2 players races to keep behind the other player up until the last turn, then you take the last turn without breaking, overtaking him by the inside and just ram his car to keep on track.

It's completely stupid, and it raises many heated discussions, heh :)

I once tried to do that in real karting race, and it didn't work so well, hehehe :)

I agree the GT games always feel prolonged. Instead of giving the player a dollar they get a penny. If the games progressed faster I would like them better.

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I completely agree, but the lack of any of these games getting an update means I'm looking for anything remotely related. I got Outrun2sp and I like it. I have some ridge racers, Got Sega Rally Championship for ps2 (which is really cheap at play asia) Still need to get Initital D. super GT/Scud never got a port  I also got Wangan Midnight ps3, nice.
Sega has approximatly a gazilion racing games screeming for ports.
So does Namco and Taito. Why so so few ports?
I also need to get more ps2 Genki games.

I rented the first GT when it came out on PS1. It was decent, but not my thing. Nothing I've seen of the sequels has convinced me that it has become otherwise.

I prefer the Burnout games for their ethic of just slapping a lump of car on the track and saying "go that way fast to win." It's for this reason that I'm troubled by the sandbox structure of Burnout Paradise. I'm enjoying the 360 demo, but if the final game lacks the quick match options of Burnout 3 like Revenge did, I fear for how long it will hold my interest. Of the 60 hours I clocked in Burnout 3, at least 40 were just in Road Rage quick matches.

Initial D on PS3, did you mean PSP?

Also, Genki has to be one of the worst developers of racing games I've had the displeasure to try. The only one I like is Daytona USA 2001 (Dreamcast) and they only 'assisted' Sega in development. I wager had they not been involved, that game would've been a lot better.

What is interesting regarding the whole arcade racing scene is the lack of ports. Battle Gear 4 is a more recent title that comes to mind.

I like car sim games but GT stopped even trying after GT3 came out. The car AI hasn't changed, the physics got beat by Forza, lack of customization, and a general attitude of "you'll buy whatever crap we put a GT label on and like it" has really turned me off to the series.

I meant Wangan Midnight, i screwed up :) Made by Genki. I like all Genki games. Probably because few arcade racing games have been ported

To be fair, not many people are crazy about paying near full price for a demo, which is essentially what these stupid Prologue releases are.

I don't mind crap AI and what not, its just advancing in the game that takes too long.. If I play a game 5 hours a day I expect to finish it in a week. Not months.

Yeah, it's crazy. I saw this game in the game store today and the price is somewhere around $45 US. I thought this was a demo, wtf?

Thread hijack: I just bought a G25 logitech racing wheel. I did this because I play GTR 2 all the time but unfortunately....you need a wheel to be really competitive in it.

I feel I've taken my driving skills using a gamepad as high as they are going to go. Anyone else go through something similar?

Err..

Could someone please clarify what all this GT HD Concept, GT Prologue and GT 5 business means? HD Concept was a free demo, but of what? What the hell is GT Prologue?

I used to hate vector-based driving games, but now with Motorstorm and Burnout Paradise, they finally start to look appealing. But pad-controls suck big time, there's no point in playing these games with pad. I'm going to by a racing wheel soon (probably G25, because that's what pops up when I throw "best racing wheel ps3" in Google), but I'd still like to see racing games with some plot or gimmick, like Chase HQ.

P.S. The best racing game for this generation is definitely PixelJunk Racers.

If you are only going to play arcade games with it, a G25 is a horrible waste of money. You'll probably want to get a logitech driving force pro. It's far cheaper and you won't miss the shifter box or clutch pedal because...well you won't ever use them on the games you are playing.

01 GT HD - free
02 GT 5 Prologue demo - free
03 GT 5 Prologue - pay
04 GT 5 coming out in the year 2029

This thread is about number 03.
I have trouble with online mode. I am able to compete online in say every 1 out of 10 tries (I mean, really...)
Anyway it is gorgeous, as it should be, with them working so hard, blah, blah. True driving fans cannot resist. To me this is one of the few if not the only next gen game worth anything. I should've gotten a 360 long time ago, but my hate against m$ keeps this from happening.

I'm currently driving the Amuse tuned Honda S2000.
Harr, I'm smoking the competition.
I even saw some Dutch guys online.
The new track is great.
The game is very hard, thus very rewarding when you place 1st.
I got the green version if you see me online.
