I would like to get my Slim-PS2 mod-chipped...

Post by dave4shmups »

It's an SCPH-77001 (a or b, I don't know), but I'm ready to have this done, so if there's anyone on here who can do it, please let me know! (If this post needs to be in the Marketplace section, then let it be bumped-I wasn't sure about Hardware vs. Marketplace.)

As far as chips go, all I want to do is have it able to play imports, I don't intend on copying any discs.

This distinction is pretty much obsolete for PS2 mods. It might be possible to find an old chip that will play import PS2-DVD but not copied PS2-DVD, but it's probably not worth the trouble or the potential compatibility issues. There's also the possibility of using homebrew stuff (which, unlike in the Xbox scene, is typically legal to distribute).

Find Dave
I got on that website, and registered, but there's no way for me to directly contact him:

Yeah, i used to have his email but lost it. I think that guy in that thread made contact (PM him for more info) and had to do it via that site. Keep trying, it will be well worth the effort. Dont forget you have to provide the chip yourself. Check SKS apps, there is a retailer that has Matrix Infinity Green dot mods at a good price. Most sites stopped selling chips because Sony put the crack down on the retailers.

I should think about the Swap Magic option, but I have an SCPH-77001, and I don't know if it would be compatible with this:

If so, I'll go that route. I just sent video game action an email about this product, so we'll see what happens.

Swap Magic does work well, but i think you would like the convenience of the chip and its many features.

I don't doubt that it works well, but whether it works well with the model of Slim-PS2 that I have is my concern. And also whether or not I can leave it in my PS2 while not playing imports.

Latest versions of SM work with all Ps2 systems including slim. I comes with tools that bypass the door sensors so the console thinks the door is always closed.

Good news, thanks! So can you leave the tools in when you're playing domestic PS2 games, and will J-PS2 games save on a US memory card? AFIK, import saves were/are only an issue with the Cube.

Yes, when playing domestics you just put the game disc in as per usual, the tools will not interfere with anything. Also, there are no issues with import save files, like with the gamecube.

From the rules:

"No ISO trading, ROM begging, bootlegging, modchip sales, copyright infringement, or assistance with any of these – for example warez FTP site details. It doesn't matter what is legal in your country, there are no exceptions to this rule – although discussion of emulation is not a problem. "
