oh i know they fail, and i'm sure it happens a lot. i'm just shocked that with such heavy use (2-3 long periods of being on a day) that nothing has happened to me (again, knock on fucking wood).jpj wrote:honestly - first hand experience selling them in 3 figure quantities: it's 30% (failure within 12 months).

Thank you for the info. I, myself, did find some info about this in case someone else wants to know. There is a mod chip called Infectus 2 for the 360 that can change the region of the console. The only problem for me is that...
NTSC-U 360 + mod chip = NTSC-J 360
So I do have another question. I understand that it's possible to get automatic patches for games with any region of a console, but is it possible to access the Xbox Live Arcade shop in all regions with any region of a console?

Oh wow, it looks like 5pb is also releasing Chaos;Head for the 360. It's a great visual novel, for those who aren't familiar with it. Shame it probably won't get a western release either.
I hope someone finds a way to crack the 360 region protection soon, it would be a shame to pass on all of these good shmups. I really don't feel like risking it to get a Japanese console, after all the stories about them dieing easily.

I posted that question in the official 360 forum.Zebra Airforce wrote:Somone (twiddle?) confirmed that they will fix your JP 360 in the US.

Let's see if it get's Major Nelson's attention.
The initial announcment that Ketsui and Dodonpachi Diaoujou came around March 4, 2008. But I saw that Microsoft rejected the plans to bring these two games to the console a few weeks later (at least on XBLA):
http://www.xblah.net/2008/03/5pb.html
5pb said they would bring the games to retail themselves. Are they still doing this, or has it been cancelled? IIRC, Play-Asia at one point had both Xbox 360 versions of Ketsui and Dodonpachi Daioujou listed as pre-orders (... not sure about this, just going from memory), but there's nothing listed now.

The original announcement said nothing about the releases being XBLA. Not long after that original announcement, we got that short article on how 5pb had originally wanted the games to be on XBLA, but had been rejected for that service, so had decided to go with retail releases.
It may be that 5pb are trying to secure a Western release of these titles as the company is fully aware of interest in these titles outside Japan (as per the email I sent to them and got a reply for that you can read earlier in this thread). It's been known for smaller Western publishers to publish the more obscure Japan releases in the West, so this isn't beyond possibility (although it is unlikely IMO). However, if Cave themselves think the Japanese 360 market is big enough to warrant the release of conversions at retail, then there must be enough money in it. How many 360s have been sold in Japan so far? It's around the half a million mark isn't it? I guess if it's only the hardcore players who own those consoles, then you'd be looking at a fairly high attach rate when selling your hardcore games.

so am i right in assuming there is no hack/mod/replay cart etc that allows the xbox360 to play any region games? ive done a search in google and found places selling mod chips for 'backup play' purposes, but it didnt mention anything about the ability to play import titles.
i dont have a 360 but with all the nice shoot em ups coming soon id rather like to buy one, altho if its a case of having to buy a jp one i might be put off.

There is a mod chip for the 360 that allows you to change region. However, I've read that it's a nightmare to install and should only be attempted by people who are pros at soldering and desoldering. However, it's unkown if this chip is detectable when on XBox Live.
If you do not yet own a 360, then you might be OK just buying a JPN model as most EU and US 360 games are region free and will run on any region console. This page shows you what is and what is not region free: http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/showthread.php?t=54517
I'm thinking of selling my EU Elite and buying a JPN console.

That's not quite true - it's actually the minority of releases that are region free, as far as I can tell. I know I was a bit pissed off when my last PAL 360 RRODed and I figured I'd be able to use my NTSC-J one to carry on playing the games I was then halfway through, only to find that they were locked.bcass wrote:most EU and US 360 games are region free and will run on any region console
Looking at that list of games that people have tested on NTSC-UK, it would appear that the majority of games tested are region free. Given that there are only a small handful of retail games actually worth owning on the 360 anyway, I don't think this is a big issue. Certainly, all the games I have [that I consider to be the best games on the system (Halo 3, The Orange Box, GoW, CoD 4)] are all region free.

But the list itself only constitutes the minority of 360 retail games.
Your best bet is often the Asian version of whatever game you're after - I've just bought the Asian release of Tales of Vesperia as it's translated and the only one that's region free.
Anyway. The news that Samurai Shodown II is just about to hit XBLA makes me even more suspicious of the 5pb claim re: Microsoft turning down the Cave conversions.

Soooo....
All bullshit aside, when can we expect to see Ketsui and DDP for sale? I mean, that is what this thread is about after all.

You mean subject matters. Many of which already have or have had dedicated topics already. Screw the pages of speculation and console life expectancy reports, just let us know when the games are coming out and where to get 'em.bcass wrote:The subject matter being discussed is actually quite pertinent to the topic, which is why people are discussing it.
