It's been ages since I took one of these, but I seem to recall being tols by the last one I took that I was an ENTP. The profile here seems to match pretty well, especially (unfortunately) the "big ideas which never get finished" part.

That sounds exactly like an excerpt from this INTP profile:
<snip>
Wow, I'd not seen that description, sounds much like me - I do that all the time, although I'm just as prone to disagreeing vocally with anyone or anything that strikes a negative chord (usually people being dumb or illogical). This is probably why I get that variance on two of the letters. It's definitely why I will never get promoted ;-)

Thanks for the info, most interesting!

Not to force you into the mold, but that is an INTP trait, too. INTP's are typically easy-going and accepting unless a personal belief is violated or an incorrect fact is stated about the INTP's area of expertise. In this case, they will adamantly defend their viewpoint with little or no room for negotiation.

Basically, they collect tons of information on a subject, make a decision based on that, and are unlikely to change their opinion afterwards (unless new information comes to light which disproves the earlier theory).

I started taking a couple of the online tests and I couldn't answer most of the questions that weren't very factual. There's two choices per question, and I just kept thinking, "this depends on the situation". I couldn't feel even confident that I'd answer the questions similarly if I took it a second time.

So what kind of personality is that?

I score 50/50 INFP and INFJ.

One great book I recommend that uses the Meyers Briggs test is called Please Understand Me. Very descriptive.

Maybe you're untypable. :P I'm also guessing you're more likely a P than a J, as J's are more decisive.

I originally took this test as part of a class, and my prof said that if you're torn on a question, go with the answer that's closer to what you'd do on a bad day. For example, if you're a borderline Introvert/Extrovert, and on a bad day you'd prefer telling the world to fuck off instead of complaing about it to somebody else, you're more introverted. Maybe that only works for E vs. I and not the others, though.

I know I vary a little. I prefer a decent amount of structure in my work environment. If I'm not given explicit assignments and firm deadlines, I end up dicking around and get nothing done. So it's not that I want the structure, I just know I need it. On the other hand, I like to keep my personal life as unstructured as possible.

You could always just read the summaries of your matches and decide that way. The test is just a way to get to that point anyway. Of course, not everything may apply. For example, mine says INTPs hate routine, mundane work, but I actually enjoy mindless duties once in awhile. Not that I enjoy the actual tasks, but they keep me physically occupied while leaving my mind available to ponder things.

Tried it again here. I wish there was a standard for these, but the obvious place to try charges for it, I think. [I can't really tell from the layout :?] Problem is, I waffle on things like whether I'm more logical than emotional or more punctual than easy-going, because in each case I see the good in both.

Supposedly rare, but there are a bunch on this one thread already. You extrovert shmup players are freaking me out, and I propose a question:

Do you you primarily play shmups one or two player? I am a stalwart one player man. I won't play two players at all. It's a waste of time to me. What about everyone else?

Are you stalwart in all gaming, or just shmups? I personally hate games that are only fun in multiplayer. Sure, I feel silly when friends are over and I tell them I traded in GoldenEye because I never played it except when friends are over. But friends are over oh so rarely, it's only an issue two or three times a year.

So I'm pretty much against focusing on multiplayer (probably a reason I've never warmed to fighting games, I've got no one to fight). The one exception might be beat 'em ups. A good beat 'em up will be fun to play by yourself, but the great ones really open up once you get a friend or two to come along. I never appreciated Streets of Rage until I started playing it with a friend.

That was my motivation for asking this. Obviously, polling the Shmups board isn't quite the same as polling a random sample of the general population :P

The Introvert part should be obvious for shmup fans, and I was assuming we'd have a lot of Thinkers as well (navigating through a bunch of dots with little or no story probably wouldn't do much for a Feeler).

I wasn't sure on Judging vs. Perceiving though... I figured Judgers would be more tenacious in their shmuppery whereas Perceivers would be more likely to switch to a different game once it starts feeling like work.

I'm thinking Sensors would rather use their experience to pick the game apart and master it bit by bit, whereas Intuitive types would rather develop a generic "big picture" strategy that they could apply to any situation in the game.

I hate work, and I'm all about the big picture. I've lost track of what personality I assigned myself, so I can't be sure that's affirming or contradicting the test.

PS - I love that episode of Seinfeld. Hilarious, although I've never been the biggest Frogger fan.

You must really hate work if you're too lazy to look at the previous page to see what type you chose for yourself.

I took the same test 3 times and came up as ISFP twice, not so sure most of the descriptions sound like me at all. Some of the shorter ones seem ok but the really long ones make it sound like all ISFP's are weird bohemian hipster artists which I am most certainly not.

Damn shame everyone isn't a personality archetype. It'd make life so easy. Mine seems too accurate. It's funny 'cause I really didn't pay it any mind the last time.
