I remember using the fishing controller in Soul Calibur during my "Test out the Fishing Controller/Twin sticks with every game I own on Dreamcast" phase. Not very practical, but alright fun. I did enjoy Quake III with the twin sticks though.
Though the real geniuses were Sega. As the Wiimote was actually a prototype for a possible controller for the Dreamcast:
Of course, had Sega done it everyone would have ignored it and just called it a gimmick.
