Who owns a Sufami Turbo?

Post by greg »

I have two so far. One came packaged with SD Gundam Generations Part 1 (One Year War) and one with Sailor Moon Fuwa Fuwa Panic 2 (the sequel to the Super Famicom title). They're actually very cheap to come by.

They aren't as linkable as I had thought they were. I got the Sailor Moon puzzle game just over a year ago, and I was thinking that perhaps I'd be able to play Gundam characters in the Sailor Moon game. According to Wikipedia, the Sailor Moon game is one of the unlinkable games.

There's not a whole lot of titles for the Sufami Turbo. Does anyone else here have one?

I have 3 games from gundam series (can't name them right now, kanji..).
I tried different setups with them, unfortunately I didn't really spot any changes in games at first look. Albeit, given that I only went through the start menu a bit, I can't be entirely sure whether there are any additions or not.

Well, I have the first Gundam Generations game... the One Year War. Strangely enough, it also features Gundam units 1-3 from 0083 as well. They have several different ones. But I think what you can do is put the one from Zeta Gundam in the second slot and you can play with the mecha from Zeta along with the original Gundam series, and vice versa.

These Gundam Generations games are turn-based strategy games, and they look very similar to Super Robot Taisen games. I have not yet started on playing these yet.

Are these different than the Same Game game? Could you get Gundam's into that game? That'd be cool! :D

Actually, Same Game was a BS-X cartridge for the Satellaview system. The Satellaview was Nintendo's first attempt at online gaming. Same Game has character cartridges that can be swapped between games. The version of Same Game you and I have features Hudson characters, but there is another one with Nintendo/Mario characters. There was an online downloadable 16-bit update to the original Legend of Zelda, which AFAIK has not been properly emulated.

The Satellaview plugged into the expansion port on the underside of the Super Famicom. The BS-X cartridges were actual games, and the upper cartridge can be swapped for character sharing. Apparently some of these BS-X games are playable without needing the Satellaview expansion. Downloadable games apparently were saved to blank small cartridges, like the character cartrige for Same game. There's a list of downloadable games here.

The Sufami Turbo was a system that plugged into the cartridge port of the Super Famicom, and it had two cartridge slots, a primary and a secondary. There doesn't seem to be much documentation covering the linkability between these two cartridge slots on the Web.
