TVs for Shmups

Post by loserdork »

What TV set ups does everyone use?

More importantly, do you set up your TV vertically? If so, what kind if TV is it, and how do you set it up vertically?

I have three crappy TVs that I've either gotten for free or paid less than $20 for. Sometimes I want to orient them vertically, but its too much work. I sometimes worry that if I set a TV the wrong way that it might slip and break its casing or screen. It seem that flat panel TVs mounted on a special hinge are the way to go. Does anyone have something like this?

There's like a million posts on this here. Search around... you'll have more than enough info.

Too much work to take ten seconds to flip your tv set on its side? Man, you lazy.

Turn it on its side.

Well, don't bother then.

Dude, you've got 3 "crappy TVs" to play with... see what happens. If you make a little effort you'll find a way to stop the thing slipping/breaking. Seriously, try it before spending proper money on a new screen that might not look so good for shmups.
Don't bomb. DON'T BOMB.

I use an old Sony Triniton TV 19". No colour problems when tateing though it is heavy. Works great on my Jap PS2 and Saturn.

I have a question and I thought I would put it here cuz the topic seemed somewhat applicable. I was wondering what is the usual refresh rate used by most shooters? Is it 15.5khz? I am wondering because I am piecing together an arcade setup and I have a good offer for a 27" monitor that outputs at 15.5khz. thanks.

It's just a matter of at what resolution the games run. 15.5Khz is "low res". If I'm not mistaken, "medium res" runs at around 25 Khz and "hi res" runs at around 31 Khz.
