Last Hope Remake?

Post by NAVVARR »

Whats the chances of anyone ever taking on the abomination that was 'Last Hope' and re doing it.

I'm talking about some talented shmup team maybe getting a hold of the original code- tweaking it here and there- rebuilding it along with some decent playtesting and ultimately reissuing a decent shooter from the original game.

Lets face it- the shooter looked great- nice graphics- it all just missed the mark- needed more playtesting - more effective weapons etc etc.

Who here would be interested in a re-issue of 'Last Hope' -i would!

Last hope was the LAST hope. There is no hope left now.

Closest thing you'll get to a remake at this point is the NeoGeo CD version.

I think the remake should be called: Final Hope ZERO-Again
But seriously, great idea. Indeed, who would?

Its settled. Last Resort is the superior remake of Last Hope, despite being released a decade earlier.

I would volunteer for the job, but eh .. no. :S

If I got my filthy hands on it, it would probabally end up playing like the bastard child of R-Type, Progear and Dodonpachi.

Maybe if there is enough interest then someone might seriously consider revisiting 'last hope' and polishing it up.

I've always wanted a good old fashioned R-type em up- and it all looked to good to be true at the time.... it was.

funny, in case anyone wondered.

also, Pulstar is seconded. fantastic game. i prefer Blazing Star, but obviously it bears very little resemblance to R-Type.
I have no sig whatsoever.

I'd buy it. My copy of Last Hope remains on the shelf, collecting dust.

Why not just make a new Last Resort? I'll bet that's what Neodev aimed for anyway.

Meh.

Remake the same game with improvements? Nah, but Last Hope 2 would be cool.
____________

While I will agree that Last Hope was flawed and could've benefited by more play testing, etc. it was by no means as bad as some of you claim it to be.

I've been shmupping since I bought my Atari 2600 back in the late 70's...and I've played some pretty bad shmups, but Last Hope is by no means a terrible game. Upon close examination one can tell a lot of blood and sweat went into making it happen. I for one enjoyed it quite a bit (on DC) even though it infuriated me at times, but I honestly see no reason to trash it so.

It reminds me of Ikaruga...I had high hopes, I bought it, played it extensively and I must admit...I don't like it. I know some of you swear by it, but I was very disappointed...I'd play Last Hope over Ikaruga any day. :?

The NeoGeo version IS the arcade. Its original format is MVS cart. It does have an AES release (identical, although very expensive) and a Neo-CD release (suffers from a bit more slowdown and features an enhanced OST... as well as really long loadtimes and the option to watch little cinematics between levels).

As with pretty much all NG games in existence, excluding the fact some CD games had frames removed from the endings over the cart (AES).

Eh.

Saw this....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SNK-Neogeo-AES-PU ... dZViewItem

Can't justify spending all that dough on it at the moment tho- when i can just load up mame.

Saw this as well

-Seems to be a remake tho- better price than the first one.

I warned you above that the AES version was expensive. Just snag the MVS cart... it should run about $60 or so.

And then get a Phantom converter after. It's one of the more awesome things I've ever bought.
Actually it has some compatibility issues but not with any of the games I own. If it's a problem for you then you can go for the Super MVS Converter II.

And as for the ridicule of my Last Resort comment, I meant it more as Last Hope is IMO utter shit and instead of playing a remake of shit, I could enjoy my time much more by playing Last Resort, which seems to me to be a much bigger influence on LH than Pulstar was.

Cheers- i'm currently lookin at getting a NeoGeo CD - i've got the AES system and to be honest i'd be as well ust selling it- its nevr getting any playtime due to the lack of games.

I checked out the Phantom Converter -looks cool- but i reckon the CD Neo Geo is the one i'm more interested in.

Unless- of course anyone here has a better idea?!

Personally I found the NeoGeo CD rendered most titles unplayable due to truly ridiculous load times, which admitedly are not as much a problem with shooters as Beat-em-ups. NeoGeo CDZ load times are better but IMO still leave the games unplayable.

I've not tried any myself but some of my friends use NeoGeo EMUs and say they work perfectly.

Huh? On my CDZ, the only shooter with somewhat annoying load times is Pulstar; everything else loads at the beginning or in a few (<10) seconds) per stage, which I'd say is very playable... Fighters are a whole different story.
