PSP homebrew shmups

Post by Squirrel »

Would anyone like to point me out to some? I'm aware of the emulators/psx conversions (in which I plan on converting Strikers 1945, Einhander and more), and I already have Gradius Collection and Every Extend Extra (AMAZING game).

I'm just looking for some homebrew decent stuff, and yes I am aware of a GBA emulator, and BulletGBA. Anything else?

i haven't really found any that have been worth playing for more than a few minutes, but here are some links

probably the most high profile and best graphics has been Callisto, although i don't think there was ever a release with more than 2 levels..

panic paradyz is kinda like rez, i guess. maybe it's considered more of a racing game. i dunno. anyway i was impressed by the icon graphic but not the game itself

roboflood, i haven't tried this one yet

and of course there are pretty solid ports of kenta cho's noiz2sa and rrootage.

there is at least one more pretty high profile psp shmup game release, but i can't remember the name of it and i can't find the link. what i remember from playing it is, it was a hori, the graphics were pretty good (though not as good as callisto), but the gameplay sucked ass. all the bullets went straight forward, it wasn't really worth playing anyway

there's also some arena shooters like "kill everything that moves" and its subsequent clones

The forgotten PSP homebrew yoko shmup title that you mention is none other than R-Gear. It's a maniac-inspired shmup title indeed...

It'll work on a 1.5fw PSP btw...

You might want to check out VR-Tech's other professional PSP homebrew game releases such as (which all listed below will work on a 1.50fw PSP):

Eye Liner
Freeesh
No Gravity -- is a very solid professional remake of Colony Wars for PSP
Panic Paradyz
Purple Motion
The Newton War -- two-colored type of 2-D vector game that seems it could be done on the Vectrex...

Thank you, sounds like R-Gear is right up my alley. Thanks again!

looked @ screens of r-gear, it's not the game i was thinking of. the game had very colorful graphics, almost like super adventure island or something like that

Hmm, R-Gear isn't booting up with 3.52M33-4 firmware, even in the 150 folder. RRootage is Amazing, just like the computer game, I have been playing that when I can at work.
