Victoly Scores - Automated High Score System - Need Testers

Post by japtor »

(Mods - wasn't sure where to put this, it's not a game to enter high scores in, and it's not a shmup in development, but it's something in development for facilitating high scores. I'm posting here because the original concept was for this place. Move or modify or whatever if you deem it necessary.)

Over the past few weeks, me and another person have been working on an online high scores system. Basically works like this: create a game and enter whatever extra info, and others can enter their scores, and it all automagically updates. It keeps track of all your previous scores so you can see your progress, along with some overall basic stats (specifically average rank and number of games playing). Has semi ghetto support for games with multiple modes, such as Dangun Feveron (main game and time attack). Not perfect, but they work.

Anyways, right now we need a bunch of people to test it out, the first public/stress test for this thing. Hopefully it won't blow up, but keep in mind that is is a beta, scores might get erased (whether through an unknown bug, database cleansing, whatever), so keep note of your scores yourself, here on the Hi Scores forum, etc.

And finally the url:

Some instructions and notes are on the site to get you started, have fun with it (assuming it doesn't blow up).

[edit]
Known bugs list:
- multimode game creation doesn't work properly for regular users right now. at all. might be fixed (very) soon, might not be. [update: MAYBE fixed]

Very cool, indeed.

I created a Trizeal table to test it out. Works good, but after creating a game, is there no way to add more custom fields or multi-modes (other than deleting the table and doing it over)? 5 games/multi-modes might not be enough, in Trizeal's case I'd be unable to include Score Attack tables for each stage. Not that it's absolutely necessary, but still.

(back to my normal non capitalizing ways)
oops forgot about that. when you create a game, the number of custom fields, or the multimode switch, is set. so make sure you dont mess up on there. at least the existing fields can be edited in case you just make a typo or something. dont think this is going to change because the way things are set up, although i have some ideas for a little more flexibility (at least temporarily).

the game limit should be upped within a few hours, whenever the other guy (rura) gets up and gets back to work on this. keep the input coming.

An idea I came up with 10 seconds ago: how about the possibility of having pull-down menus for custom fields? It'd be easy to have stages, ships, etc. stuff like that there which would enforce a constant look on the tables, so that one person will not type "Stage 4 YEAH!" and other just "3".

EDIT:

Just got a funky message on the games page:
Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/rura/scores/constants.inc.php on line 338

actually, that was one of my ideas a while ago. it's on the 'todo' list. my idea went a little further with even being able to define images and stuff, so for something like gunbird 2, it could show the character sprite in there. but for now, it is how it is.

and yeah we just saw that message (i dont know why rura's awake...its 4:30 am where he is). we're trying to figure it out. something with cig's batrider/normal course...waiting for some type bug report here...

[edit, cigs found the first obvious flaw, #1 on the list (and perhaps more). we can have a high score chart of bug finders to make this a more legitimate high score topic i guess]
