F**KIN' DONPACHI

Post by evil_ash_xero »

I played this earlier paused it and noticed the "target the f**kin'" something or other during the boss' warning. Anyone else notice this?

Some sort of in joke at Cave or something?

Yeah, probably the best "LARGE ENEMY APPROACHING" message in shmup history.

I did notice this the other day, but I don't think it's the best enemy approaching message yet - that's still an honor that goes to the Darius series, the original and best

I prefer the Psyvariar 2 message. That "checking" is so totally out of place it still makes me laugh even after seeing it for years.

Dodonpachi's international version is full of ridiculously bad english.

The japanese version also has a ridiculous disclaimer.

If you're talking about the prosecutedt to the full extent of the jam deal it's on the US board too.

Only on DonPachi. DDP's US version has "prosecuted" and "law governed by the country of origin".

it actually makes sense for Dangun, given the theme. the first time i loaded that up, i thought it was intentional. but then i noticed they had done it for donpachi too, and i was like, OK these guys just need a freaking translator

Oh, I misread it as Donpachi, since that's what the OP was talking about. Oops . What bad english does DDP have? Also, I'm pretty sure it says jam because a J kind of looks like an L backwards, and the author got confused.

In DDP there's silly stuff like "You knoe", "with fierce fier power", "violators and subject to severe penalties" (and instead of are T.T) and general awkward phrasing in all texts (between loops, before hibachi and ending).

It's not from a shmup, but my favorite engrish phrase is from an arcade game called Battle Rangers and goes like this...
You! Intruders! Get you the hot bullets of shotgun to die!
The whole game is filled with good ones, but I like that one best.

It's "Invaders".

The DonPachi warning text is easily the best, but what about speech warnings?

My favorites:

1. DDP: DOJ "Watch out, watch out!"

2. Salamander "An intruder has penetrated our forcefield" (with monotonic voice)

3. DDP: "You are approaching the target of attack. The mission starts now. Are you ready?"

What the Darius one?

I love WARNING! WARNING! messages, so I'd love to know.

Pysvariar 1 and 2 have my favourite. One day I'd love to make a list of all the game's boss messages...

it's more annoying in donpachi when he says crap like

"watch out rookie!"

"look out kid, they're on your tail!"

I like those. They give the game more personality and style.

I love it in DoDonpachi and especially Ketsui when that slightly simple sounding woman tells you the "mission starts here". So what have I been doing for the last four minutes or so?

Of course - I think I knew that. Silly me. Such a simple one though - I don't think it deserves being called 'the best'.

Also - 'You! Invaders! Get you the hot bullets of shotgun to die!

That is amazing!

"Fire at will, kid. Fire at will."

Funny how in 90% of the games developed in Japan the main character is called "kid" by someone.

"Thanks for playing this game. BYE!"

Also, it seems more likely that "jam" is taken from the term "in a jam" (to be in trouble).

1.) it's huge
2.) the boss names are awesome and you don't have to buy some ST guide at ripoff prices to see them
3.) it comes with a free giant flashing red WARNING, which you said you like earlier
Also - 'You! Invaders! Get you the hot bullets of shotgun to die!

That is amazing!
I don't think that Battle Rangers quote counts as a boss warning message...but it's been a while since I played that one.
