I never fall asleep doing anything (except watching tv), let alone something as mentally engaging as playing a shmup. That's probably because i can't play shmups when i'm anywhere near tired, as it becomes an exercise in frustration due to increased failure rate.

If I'm not tired, I won't fall asleep during anything, and if I'm tired, I could fall asleep doing whatever.

That being said, Pop'n Twinbee. :o

Well okay, not while I was playing the game. But I fell asleep with Gradius V at the menu screen, and I kinda left the TV and game on 'cause I was just really tired. I tend to just leave the game on because I play it with a boot disc, not all the time, but sometimes leave it on if I'm taking like a half hour break or something.

But a game that will 100% put you to sleep is Xenosaga. Oh my god.

No, but the closest I have been is playing Super Aleste.

Other boring compile shmups could work too. (excluding Zanac and MUSHA, those are great)

Hang on - is Ghetto Tate when you play laying on your side? I thought I just meant a tate'd TV and SG combo instead of a proper cab...

EDIT - Checked the glossary - I was wrong!

Ghetto Tate is assuredly one of the best ways of falling asleep while playing. So this falling asleep isn't an isolated thing then.

And I'm sure I'm not the only one randomly dreaming about blue/pink/purple bullet curtains, and how I magically avoid everything or can't avoit crap. What's amazing is the loop aspect of those dreams... It goes on over and over until the damned alarm clock rings.

No wonder why one wakes up totally exhausted.

I've nodded off during shmups many times in the wee hours of the morning.
