Ketsui's a pretty great game, good soundtrack, short chains and is played best on a cab.
Be warned - its full on though. Its not a relaxing game.
Price used to be about $600 or less. Now there's Cave Madness, so don't bite the bullet for more than $800.

luckily I am as rich as hell and i can afford a good ketsui pcb, instead of a port on console of microshit.Plasmo wrote:Garegga, Mars Matrix, Border Down???Fuck ports, PCBs will be always superior experience
But even if the Ketsui port won't be such an awesome port, it'll be around $700 cheaper and that's the most important thing to me.

It´s pretty hard to put a price on games, anyways. I mean, if you play Ketsui for the next five years, 800$ isn´t such a bad price.
Hey, while we´re at it, let´s link another Icycalm essay:
http://insomnia.ac/commentary/on_value_for_money/
In the end, you don´t really pay for a fixed good (like, a game with seven stages is worth more than a game with five stages) but for an experience. If you buy Ketsui and realize it´s THE best shooter you have ever played and you will play it until you hit the grave, then paying this much money isn´t bad. However, if you think it blows, then it´s obviously not.
And given that you can play certain shmups over and over and over (and then some) again, many games can have more substance than 30 RPGs combined.

my advice is get something easier then, Ketsui is worth every penny but it is hard as nails aswell, why not get DDP DOJ and when you can get to the last stage on that id say you have nice enough skills to enjoy ketsui aswellLigersknight wrote:im not really GODLY or anyhing at shmups but im accually pretty bad at DDP i can only get to stage 4 on 1 credit does this make ketsui "not for me"?

word ! i've only played ketsui for 2 afternoons when i met up with markedkiller and it almost seemed alienly hard to me at first.. i think on my first go i got to the 3rd boss on some flukey shit but that bugger didn't topple all afternoon.. i started picking it up a bit better on the 2nd afternoon tho and got to the 4th level finally! i just love the overwhelming feeling you get from this game... hopefully i'll get some more playtime soon.. it's deffo infinitely preferable to mushimesama ,espgaluda 2 and the newer cave games i.m.osven666 wrote:my advice is get something easier then, Ketsui is worth every penny but it is hard as nails aswell, why not get DDP DOJ and when you can get to the last stage on that id say you have nice enough skills to enjoy ketsui aswellLigersknight wrote:im not really GODLY or anyhing at shmups but im accually pretty bad at DDP i can only get to stage 4 on 1 credit does this make ketsui "not for me"?

Well, they're generally pretty overpriced. But with the dollar being so weak at the moment, it could be doable.Ligersknight wrote: that was the best idea i've heard in a long timealso considering the fact that im only 15 and Dodonpachi Daioujyo only costs 300-480$ max for the pcb thx

If you're into danmaku games, love Cave, love hammering soundtracks and a deep but simple score-system -> its worth it.
Regarding the approaching port though, I'd not buy the PCB before the console version was released. Or just buy the port.

I think Ketsui was the first Cave game where I ever managed to get to stage three on my first ever credit. The same day i played mushi for the first time and died on the scorpion boss after panic bombing my way through the first boss
Then again, I've only ever played like 9 credits on Ketsui on just two seperate sesions. Beginners luck?

I would guess that playing for score makes this game a lot harder (point blanking).MX7 wrote:I think Ketsui was the first Cave game where I ever managed to get to stage three on my first ever credit. Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Remember, this is a USED game we're talking about here. And by used, that means its prolly had several owners. Just something for the thread starter to take into consideration.neorichieb1971 wrote:And thats the point, $700 cheaper or $700 greater experience?

The question is : is it worth the price for YOU ?
We cannot answer that question for you.
I wouldn't personnally put as much money on a game, because I wouldn't like to take the risk of the game losing value. I'm not on a hurry and prefer buying and playing lots of good old games for cheap than buying 70 euros for very recent games. Neither do I like spending too much on PC components which will lose value in little time, etc., but these are only personal choices.
