First: Are there ANY vertical oriented med res arcade games?
Second,: Has anyone run MAME on a medium res monitor? Does it work ok or are there any outrageous things that would come up?
The reason why, is that I bought a 29" monitor last year (advertised on ebay as standard res)- it's been sitting in the back room since then, no way to test it, I finally got a cab that it will fit in, installed it last night, apparently wrong resolution, hoped it was VGA for naomi stuff, still didn't work, tried Gradius IV.... It's a medium resolution monitor! What the hell am I supposed to do with it? (It also only fits vertically).
So I thought I could make a vert MAME cab. (or a dedicated cab, but I've been unable to find a single vert med res game). Will that work?
Chances of a 29" monitor only being medium rez is slim. Look around on the motherboard for a plug with 4 or 5 pins and some other connectors close by that it could also mate with. Chances are you can just plug into another connector to switch to low or maybe even high rez. At least that's how my 29" Nanao is.

I checked for that, there's nothing. It's a well gardner chasis. Has a chasis ever has a seperate daughter board that would change the resolution? I just ask because I have a broken chasis that looks very similar but with a few diffs and I think it's a standard resolution chasis.
I'm going to try and hook up my computer to it to see what happens with mame.
I tried the other chasis already, just some pops and the suction cup and the tube didn't lite up. -Means the transformer's bad? (that's when I decided it must be a bad chasis).
Medium Res only monitors are more common than you think. Virtua Fighter cabs use these, and are commonly dumped when people try to put something else in the cab. Mame will work fine if you have an AVGA card, which can drive it at 24khz.
