Degauss....wha?

Post by Battlesmurf »

ALrighty- so I have a 25' WG monitor. Looks brand spanking new- not one of those 24.8 ones, either. I got a good deal on the cab it came in- but I'd like to try to salvage this monitor if I could. Basically- it looks like there are magnets being held to it on the top left and bottom right. I've tried my plug in coil- and it doesn't seem to want to make a difference. Any ideas?

I think you need a tougher coil. You could also try a speaker magnet.

If degaussing is not helping it could either be magnetic interference near by (speaks in the cab) or the yoke. Check to see if the yoke was adjusted (if the shims are still in place). Sometimes the shims fall out and the yoke moves closer to the tube causing the color blooming in the corners.

Dave- you are a superhero!

+1 for Dave- yoke is missing shims. I'm going to scrounge around for more and see what happens next : )

Grant,

I recall a thread where someone used a high speed drill and attached some eath magnets with tape to it and held it near the monitor. Seemed to do they trick.

Its actually common to see small magnets taped to the back of the tube, or magnet stickers in the shape of a V. Its not really for color, but fine adjustment of geometry at the edges of the screen.

I've got a monitor that dips in just a bit at one end, do you think fridge magnets would pull it back out? (I've actually got 2 monitors that do that).

Then degaussing would fix the colors?
