Im in a state of confusion over another stick question & would like some advice, please.
Sticks seem to be a matter of preference for the most part with other basic issues like whats affordable & does it work with a particular console.
My consoles consist of Saturn/DC & PC emu's. I also have an SNES & an N64 & 'may someday' branch out to a Play Station. Maybe...
Based on those consoles would you prefer a HORI HRAP2 or a DC Arcade Stick ( Green Goblin )?
Why the choice & whats the benefit of one over the other? In your opinion...
I think I can get various console adapters for both & the only difference to my inexperienced eye is that the HRAP has button control & the DC has VMU capabilities.
Any thoughts?

HRAP2 in my opinon. The stock parts of the DC stick aren't as good and from what I've seen it takes a bit more effort to modify, although it's not bad by any means. Also your ability to use adapters is much more limited, so you'd probably end up having to hack it for use with the Saturn (and other consoles).
As far as VMU support goes, there is an adapter made by Innovation (the name escapes me) which allows the use of Saturn and PSX controllers on the DC and also has a VMU slot built into the adapter itself. It is one of the best ones you can get for this purpose as it supports the Z/C Dreamcast buttons correctly (certain Capcom fighters will not work correctly with other adapters because L/R aren't read correctly). If you can't find one of those, though, you can always just plug a regular controller with a VMU into one of the other ports (though some games only want to save on A-1).

Ive decided on the HRAP2 after all.
I got it new for the same as I would have paid for an X-Arcade Solo.
I already had a PS2/N64 to USB adapter & I picked up a DC adapter as well as a VGA box.
If anyone can point me to a Saturn adapter Id be grateful. I cant seem to locate one just yet.
Thanks for all the good advice from everyone!

OK, OK, I am officially the biggest dumbass on the Shmup site! At least I feel like I am.
Remember I was lookin' at a DC Green Goblin OR a HRAP2?
Well, I bought an HRAP2 from Game Asylum & then got a msg they were outa stock. ( Why they had it up there is another story )
So I splurged & bought another one on Ebay cuz I was already in the mood for an HRAP2, right!?
This morning Im looking at ebay, I go to MY page & I see I have something that needs to be paid for. HUH!? I always pay immediately, so WTF!?
It seems that sometime during the last week, AFTER going to the doctor for help curing my bacterial pneumonia & after he gave me some antibiotics & a BIG bottle of codeine cough syrup, that I went to my account on esnipe & made a bid for the "DC Green Goblin", which I promptly forgot all about, thanks to my abusive nature & codeine.
And like clockwork, 6 seconds before the end of the bidding, esnipe sniped the "DC Green Goblin" & won it for me.
So now I am the proud but official dumbass owner of a new HRAP2 & a DC Green Goblin.

On that point, I opened up my HRAP and swapped the buttons into a layout which worked well with the Neo Geo adapter, since many of those games don't have a button config option. Makes it a bit awkward when trying to play games on other systems, but almost everything else I use it for supports remapping, so no biggie.Check Tototek.com for a PS2-> SS adapter. Only problem with it is the default button configuration is mixed.

Thats my understanding although Im sure theres still a debate somewhere as to which is THE best!Harlequin wrote:So if im reading right guys, the best stick that i need to get my PC to
play Roms in MAME is the HORI HRAP2?
I also have a PS2, will i need an adapter to use it?

Ill be using a universal PS2/N64 to USB adapter ( cant remember where I got it ) until I find it dosent do the job. If that happens Ill look for another brand. There seem to be many.
If you get one you might post a comment as to what brand & how it works out for you...

RUT RO!!!
I just received my DC Green Goblin today, plugged it into my DC to play a bit &... well, nothing!?
It appears to be DOA. I cant get any response out of it on either of my 2 DC consoles.
My regular controller works just fine but no joy from my Green Goblin.
Other than it being broken & sending it back, does anyone have any suggestions as to what else could be the problem &/or how to correct it?

I'm going to guess the DC GG has surface mounted circuitry, so there shouldn't be any problems on the board. Just look around for loose or missing connections or the like. I'm not familiar with those at all, so YMMV. Good luck.doodude wrote:So I emailed the seller & got an email confirmation from her that I could open the controller & see if maybe a wire has come loose or something.
Im really not savvy about these things so if anyone could tell me what to look for once I get it open & start poking around in there Id appreciate it.

I have an HRAP2 that I like a lot. Im assuming the HRAP is not too awfully different & that youll find quiet a bit of use for it.

On the question of the Mayflash (?) USB stick, Ive seen a tutorial on modding this stick awhile back but I cant find the tute right now. Ill look again this evening.
But, what I remember ( I think!? ) is that its all plastic & the base is not all that heavy. In the tute they were going to add weight to the base.
The top is covered with some sort of veneer that they scraped off which the modder claimed was easily scratched & marred as well as the sides.
Other than gutting the thing to put in different stick & buttons & the efforts put into repainting the thing I dont remember much more.
There was never any discussion on the sticks original state of game playing capabilities. Just future...
Hope this helps. BTW, Im thinking of getting one myself to mod also. Apparently its size & dimensions are suitable for modding with just about anything. And its fairly cheap...

After I wrote this I went to Play-Asia to once again consider the USB stick.
I found that the shipping ( for me ) brought the total to around $70.
I just got a DC arcade ( with PCB

If your just looking for a stick to play with you might find something with a little less shipping cost & add that cost to a better stick. IMO...

Look around ( google I guess!? ) & you can find that there is an HRAP2 SA coming out. The SA stands for Sanwa = Sanwa parts. Yeah really...Harlequin wrote:Thanks dude, I am definately going for the HRAP2, just
waiting for play-asia to get some in stock
ANy place else i can pick one up at a decent price with
postage? I am in Australia.
Harlequin

There is also an HRAP2 SE thats apparently been out that has Semitsu parts.
Ive never heard of either until the last couple of days. I think HORI may be taking pre-orders on the HRAP2 SA now or very soon.
If you locate the info on these sticks Id appreciate it if youd post your findings...

Thats much cheaper than Play Asia who dosent even have them in stock...
Even Walmart carries some Hori's on line.
You could be a long time waiting for playasia to get some in.
Ah crap i thought i read somewhere it was for PC too, oh well HRAP2 it is!Gwyrgyn Blood wrote:HRAP3 is PS3 only, Hori Fighting Stick EX2 is 360. Both are alright. Don't get the Fighting Stick 2 or 3, they are both bad.

PS3 controllers such as the HRAP3 work but you may need to fiddle with the PS button every time.
The discontinued Pelican adapter provides a lagless conversion from PS to PC. You risk incurring a few frames of lag with everything else, which probably won't matter unless you're very hardcore.doodude wrote:Harlequin wrote: Does anyone recommend an adapter for PS/DC/Saturn to PC?

Does anyone have any knowledge of this adapter?

or this one:

or does anyone reccomend either brand over the other?
Also... Does anyone make a DC to Saturn adapter? Can someone give me a link please?
