Gotta sell some shmups - what shoud I let go ? :(

Post by brianon »

First off...I'm not trying to sell anything here. These will be ebay items. Just want your opinions.

Anyway. Just bought Rock Band on import so have to sell some shmups to make back some €€€€ :(

Shmups I have...

Gamecube - Ikaruga
PS2 - Espgaluda
PS2 - Ibara
PS2 - DoDonPachi Dai-ou-jou
PS2 - Gradius V
Megadrive - Thunderforce IV

I've not had time to really play any of these - except for Ikaruga & Gradius.
I really need to just keep THE best. What should I keep and what should go ?

Also keep in mind that I need to make some money :)

trouble is brianon, those are all really good games, and if you sold them without really playing them it would be a shame. but that's just my two cents :D

Yeah it'll kill me to let em go but the other games I have just aint't worth much (Assasins Creed, Forza 2, Motorstorm etc...). Unless I sold like...all of em :(

One of the reasons I haven't played the PS2 games that much is because the PS2 looks terrible on the 24" monitor. I don't see that changing.

I would wait to play all of them before you sell any of them. which one's you sell should be based of personal preference's not other people's opinions.

EDIT: It's not like most of these are going down in value. Likely you'll make more green if you wait(not much more though).

Give me Thunder Force IV. I will take good care of it until this madness passes. I don't promise to return it, however...

Agreed.

I, for one, cant figure as to why exactly anyone would sell something like Dai-ou-jou to get Rockband of all things.....

Dai-ou-jou is rare and expensive.... good luck finding THAT again.

Rockband is just expensive.... but it's not going anywhere.

Why not just wait and save up, instead of getting rid of those?

Sure, I sell games sometimes when I wanna buy something new, but never, NEVER one of my shmups or other imports......

And if you're planning on using Rockband the way it's meant to be played.... with a group.... then dont pay for it all on your own! Make them pay their parts too! It's only fair.

The only game I personally could let go on that list is Ikaruga, as it's so easy to buy back later.

Ok, let me rephrase that:

*I* had a bucket of trouble finding this dang game, heh.

Maybe I went about it wrong, but it cost me more than I'd like to remember. So did Mushi. Galuda I got lucky with and found at a convention. And Ibara is a whole different story entirely.

I think it just depends on how you go about buying these....

Though, personally, for me, even if Im paying a silly price for some of these, they're worth it, I say.

The only one of those shooters which is somewhat rare is Ibara, which apparently sold very poorly and wasn't reprinted. Mushihime-sama is not a common game either, but it got a Taito-best reprint.

Both DOJ and Espgaluda can still be bought new; they got more than one (identical looking) print run.

So in terms of rarity you should keep Ibara and maybe Mushihime-sama, all other games can currently be found again without effort.

That explains that.....

I think when I bought my copy of DOJ, it was before this new printing run; I had to go to alot of trouble to get it at the time, cause most places were out of stock, and it was really dang expensive.....

If you're going to sell these off, I say, at LEAST make backup copies first before you do so.... then you dont have to entirely lose them...... though I personally wouldnt sell them regardles.....

TFIV Mega Drive? Man, don't let that go! Not until you play and beat it on one credit - then you'll have it framed. Such a beautiful and classic game!

I'm itching to sent you a PM on that one...

For Ed Oscuro,

Your response was good for a hearty chuckle...lol. ^_~

---------------------------------

For brianon,

The 1992 Mega Drive game of Thunder Force IV is a classic yoko shmup title that deserves a spot in your personal console shmup collection. Tecnosoft really pulled out all "the stops" when producing/developing it (culling from their previous experience in developing the 1990 released Thunderforce-AC arcade PCB title) and has it in spades... ^_~

Then again, Ibara and Mushi are much less respected as ports than the other two. Hard call.
