Ever fallen asleep playing a shmup? Which one?

Post by KindGrind »

I must say it happened to me on two different occasions.

Both times, with several weeks interval, on RSG's final boss. And not stage select -> last stage, but rather playing through and falling asleep at almost the same moment.

Worst part of this is, it's very true.

Never fallen asleep playing a shmup, but I've dozed off during a couple of superplays, such as Raiden Aces High, Radiant Silvergun and Guwange. A lot of superplays are deadly boring to watch, unless your looking for some specific tactics or scoring tricks.

ESPRaDe boss milking is also deadly boring.

Actually falling asleep might not be that much of a problem for me - worse are the parts that are so overwhelmingly easy that you lose concentration and THEN die.

I have the opposite problem, sleep-shmupping. I'll fall asleep, and wake up in front of my TV with a new highscore in DDP. o_O

Glad to see I'm not the only one. I was quite tired when it did happen... right after lunch.

No snarky Compile comments, Rob? I'm both rather proud of and slightly disappointed in you. ;)

I do that occasionally but it keeps my brain actively going "WTF is wrong with the rest of the world" so I don't fall asleep :)

Not fallen asleep while playing myself... BUT...

My 3-year old son falls asleep nicely while watching me play Blast Wind... (Not sure what it is about this one, but I'd definitely recommend it to all parents.) :D

I've never fallen asleep playing one. However on a related note, I score and play better when I'm sleep deprived, in the wee hours of the morning.

Truth. When I wake up I'm god-damn energized and ready to take everything on. It's great, bullet patterns that formerly stumped me suddenly become crystal clear. I swear there was a thread about this phenomenon around here somewhere...

This happened to me today.

I couldn't believe it.

I thought you were all crazy. I was like, "How the hell do you fall asleep while playing a shmup? I mean seriously!"

But sure enough, I was at work, I had been up all night the night before, and I was playing Nanostray 2 (left Space Invaders Extreme at home sadly).

At any rate, I was fighting one of the later bosses, and it was shooting these really... really... really slow bullet spreads at me, and since its Nanostray 2 it takes like 30 minutes to kill the damn thing, and I completely dosed off while playing. I woke up when I (miraculously) got hit, but still... I am now in the "I have fallen asleep while playing a shmup" club. :o

It's still crazy though. I've never fallen asleed playing any videogame.

But I've fallen asleep once when I was at the toilet craping. I was 15 years old, and wasn't even drunk... it actually was early on the morning and I got late to school because of this.

The only videogame I've ever fallen asleep while playing is PSO, while laying in an extremely comfortable and gigantic beanbag chair.

I've spaced out while playing Under Defeat, but never fallen asleep.
