Damn, this is awesome news. Hopefully they'll make the game region-free, or at least if they don't I hope it does well enough to warrant more ports. I'm not against getting another 360 from a different region, but I'm not going to do it for two games.
But hey, two apparently great games that a lot of people haven't had the opportunity to play are getting home ports. Fantastic news.

... 1. do you know something called Street fighter 3.3 A? sounds strange but even if this game is available on 3 different platforms, the original pcb still costs a lung !!! why ? the lobby ! the hype ! the pure ! and the same will be with Ketsui (especially if this port lacks Tate & scanlines & 100% perfect feeling) it's just about having what is the best and most human want this
2. awesome "smiling" cave liars for recent cave matsuri discussion about ketsui port !

I started a thread on the Aksys forums in a section they have setup to suggest Japanese games they could look into for US publishing. Registration is very easy and doesn't require an eMail verification so please take a few minutes to show your support for these games if you're really interested in them. $30 or $40 for one or both is a hell of a lot better than $60 or $70 a piece PLUS the cost of a Japanese Xbox 360.

If they're publishing Shikigami 3 here, then maybe there's a chance.Leroy wrote:I started a thread on the Aksys forums in a section they have setup to suggest Japanese games they could look into for US publishing. PS3 fanboys are the worst kind.... I love seeing stuff like this happen.
For the record the 360 ring of death sucks, but so does the PS1 and 2 drive failure rate. Skipping FMV, not reading blue discs, not reading DVDs..... remember that. Yeah that happened on as many PS2 and 1 as much as the red ring but no one really likes to talk about that.
At least MS fessed up and fixes it for you.... Sony just says nothing and tells you it's your fault and makes you buy a new one or charges you for the repair.
Anyone who owns the PCB I would think hopefully would care less about the port.... unless they are dumb and buy it b/c they either want to make money off the PCB or worse want to feel more special than everyone else b/c they can afford/have it while others can't.
I shelled out 800.00 to GP for a mushi board and I don't care what happens to the price on it now that I have it. I have it to play it..... perfect.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

My thoughts exactly. This is still great news but per everyone else's (non res related) concerns, I feel a lot safer waiting for PS3 ports instead. I still haven't scratched the surface of my PS2 DOJ and spending $400 on an import 360 is mighty risky when I could put that toward a PCB for my supergun. But I'm all for spamming 5pb with region free requests of course.zakk wrote:Region locking has traditionally been done by the publishers. And just about every single japanese 360 game is region locked.jpolz wrote:Why is everyone dead set that they will need to buy a JP 360?
If Cave/5PB have any sense, they'll just make it region-free since there is almost no chance that anybody will publish it in US/EUR. They'd only sell more.
In other words, outlook grim.

All this talk about an "original" sounds like trouble to me, only because of the old X-nauts-style "original" modes. Oh well. I guess luckily that's probably not a legitimate concern nowadays...bcass wrote:Folk translating those scans on the CAVE-STG forums are saying that these games will have 2 graphics modes - enhanced and original.
Are you sure that's right? I read that PGM games were in 448*224.Leroy wrote:Also, if you see the screen shots in the magazine scan, they show borders on all sides which means they could be doing a direct 2x or 3x resize. They could do a 2x resize in 720p mode (640 pixel height, leaving a 40 pixel border for the top and bottom) and a 3x resize in 1080p mode (960 pixel height, leaving a 60 pixel border for the top and bottom).

Would it not be easier/cheaper to buy the Xbox "Arcade" edition (no HDD, $279) then flash it with a custom firmware that boots imports?Dylan1CC wrote:My thoughts exactly. Unfortunately there are a lot of people like that.Strider77 wrote:unless they are dumb and buy it b/c they either want to make money off the PCB or worse want to feel more special than everyone else b/c they can afford/have it while others can't.
We should always keep in mind that even if the ports turn out to be bad ones, this is still a very GOOD thing, as more people will get to experience these games finally. I hope they port all the recent CAVE games. I don't plan to sell any of my PCBs regardless, but the thought of having wider high score competitions and more people exposed to these games is very exciting.

Man... this thread is already half as big as Cave's new game's thread.
Oh, I bet that shows up on 360 too.
Not like this is surprising though... I mean, we knew Cave was working on the 360 way back when, we knew the 360 was getting the 2D shooter love (Omega Five, Senko no Ronde, Raiden Aces, Trigger Heart Excelica, new Treasure shmup, Ikaruga, etc.), so... I don't see why some people are so surprised.
Sure, the 360 is selling poorly in Japan. But like Yukio Futatsugi said in an interview a few months back, the Xbox[360] is the hardcore gamer's machine. The people who have Xbox360s are the hardcore gamers. And given how much 2D shooter support the 360 has already gotten over there, its like, "Well, its obvious which system the fans of 2D shooters will have now..."
In so far as the "porting":
It'll have enchanced graphics. *shrugs* I mean, if the enhanced graphics are made to look good in hi-def... then... I... don't see why it would be a problem.
I'll definitely pick up Ketsui just to see it. May or may not snag DDPDOJBL, since I like DDP alright but am not a fan at all of DP... so... I dunno.

Nice joke, though.
Not looking forward to buying a second chipper-shredder (well, third, if you count the one I had to return right out of the box) just because of region coding.
/me goes back to playing the over-a-decade-old, still-fully-functional scph-1001. Which, oddly, was sold to me by a coworker who has 3 failed 360s . . .

Most releases are regionlocked because there's a publisher for a western release who wants to make sure that westerners buy a western version. This was the case with Senko/Wartech and many other JP games. The only exception until now that I'm aware of is Shiki 3 probably due to the stupidity of the publisher thinking that sooner or later it's going to have a western release (see Wii version).Dylan1CC wrote:My thoughts exactly. NONE of the XBLA releases like Triggerheart or Omega Five stayed JP only so every claim that the Cave ports will stay in Japan is nothing but a guess, not even a very informed one.
MS's strategy is pretty simple - make a lot of money, on a global scale. Pleasing a couple of japanese fans who can go to the arcade and play the games there anyway doesn't exactly sound like a smart business strategy.
The XBLA people do surf the web and they are perfectly aware of places like this forum and the fanhype/adoration around titles like Castlevania-Symphony, Metal Slug 3, Ikaruga or Ketsui.
Though I don't expect Cave to put a lot of work into this I'll wager that both titles will end up as global XBLA releases.
