Since I'm a big fan of both Tsukasa Jun and Psikyo, this purchase is a no-brainer for me.

My expectations are low, because right now PS2 Choaniki is the baseline. If this game is better than that, I'll be happy.

I'm mostly excited because Blade is one of my favorites (and my favorite Psikyo game), and because Blade got me into Tsukasa Jun's stuff, which the game is obviously full of. I already own a PSP, so this is definitely a no-brainer. I wouldn't buy a PSP strictly for it, though - that's not a good idea in general, and it's too much of a risk for an original X-nauts game, judging by their output.

And yeah, obviously it's 3D. Already it looks better than PS2 Choaniki, and there are bits and pieces that seem to say it'll be faithful to Blade (familiar bullet patterns, midboss characters, arcing coins dropped by enemies, familiar GUI elements, plus the obvious - art style and backgrounds).

I don't think so. Besides some backgrounds, it looks hi res 2D to me.

Well, yeah, that castle background is plainly 3D - the way the roof textures are applied and filtered gives it away - but the sprites could very well be 2D. It'll be nice to see 2D stuff at the PSP's native resolution, always in progressive-scan.

UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Guys, what's the big fuss (calling this THE reason to buy 250 portable, please)? The Sengoku series hasn't ever been too hot gameplay-wise, getting all hoped up won't do anyone any good. Remember previous threads like this? *Cough*R-TypeFinal*Cough*. Cool it down or face horrible disillusionment.

BTW, it looks like it's 3D to me from that shot in front of that building.
IMO, that's just a 3D background; it looks like a 2D hori shmup. Or it could be 2.5 D, but there's no way that this is a 3D game-like a Rainbow Cotton-style entry in the series, or something.

And as far as reasons for getting a PSP, it isn't JUST this game. Star Soldier is coming out for the PSP, and then there's also that awesome Galaga Arrangement on PSP Namco Museum. It doesn't matter if any of these games come out here, because the PSP is region-free on games.

And with both Sengoku Cannon and Star Soldier set for summer releases in Japan, then there's every reason to believe that the PSP will continue to see more shmup releases.

they're not saying its 3d like Rainbow Cotton, they are just saying that the backround sets are 3d, like you said.

Under Defeat? it's G-revs newest. don't seem to be many details to elaborate on. although given the diagrams, rotation may not be as free as ZG2's. looks sweet as well, and on Naomi, c'mon DC!

I never thought i'd see the day that Sengoku Blade got a sequel. I wouldn't of believed it if i hadn't seen it on The Magic Box. Eventhough its a very simple shooter its still one of my favorites.

Magic Box is hardly a reliable source of news or information. :p Listen to us! We're reliable! We get the shooter news quickly! D:

Well, I'm still somewhat deprived of Sengoku Cannon pics (all the links seem to have died), so can anyone point me in the right direction?

No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Don't know what I like worse, the polygonized boss or the bland backgrounds there. I see this game selling just for Tsukasa Jun designs, thoe.

Play-Asia have it up for preorder, but don't pay their price - they're charging $60 for a 4800-yen ($45) game.

HMV seem to be ready and willing to ship the game internationally, though - http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail.asp?sku=1067979 . Add the game to your cart and then find the "English" button at the bottom of the screen to go through registration and checkout. They only have EMS available, but even with that it's only $5 more than Play-Asia's price with airmail. Alternately, wait for NCS to list a preorder for it.

It would be nice if more shmups are released for the PSP, even sweeter if it is region-free....

TATE mode would be a little weird to use however, I'd doubt that playing the PSP in a vertical postion would be very confortable, seeing as handhelds tend to hurt my hands after holding them for too long.

I'm still surprised that Sony would leave it region free. You'd think out of sheer business pratices (or just being plain evil), that they would limit the system to regions. I mean cmon, the PS2 is a bitch to bypass the region protection, while with older Nintendo systems, all you have to do is break off a piece of plastic and you're ready to go.

Seeing as the PSP has a hortizontal screen, it'll be a little hard to do vertical shmups on it.

Holy cow, I'd say it's about time to get myself a PSP sometime soon.... unless they'll release it for the PS2 or something else instead after awhile.

Bumping this, since the game is just about out. X-nauts haven't released any new screens online for weeks (months?). I'm expecting the worst. :p We'll see soon enough, though.
