R-Type PCB tech question

Post by maxlords »

Ok, I just bought an R-Type PCB that's being shipped to me. The seller told me this:
Although KLOV says otherwise, it works fine in my jamma cab, no adapter needed.

It even says Jamma right on the board.
However, I read this on KLOV:
Strange, that while the PCB for R-Type says JAMMA on it, it is not a game that can be simply swapped with another JAMMA board. This game has no -5V pinout on the edge connector, nor does it have the test and tilt pinouts of a true JAMMA connector. Also, nowhere in the manual is the word JAMMA mentioned.
Now, my question is...should I just pop this game in my JAMMA cab? Or should I get an adaptor made custom for it? Will running it in my JAMMA cab (like the seller says he has) have any negative effect on the board?

I guess I partially responded to this in your other thread, but I'll add it here as well. KLOV is correct that it's not a *fully* JAMMA compliant board, because it doesn't support tilt or test or -5V.

However, it should work just fine in your cab. Those few things merely are not supported. It'll run and play just fine, video / controls / coin work perfectly.

Understandable, I did quite a bit of research on it before I stuck Mars Matrix into my R-Type cab. Never found a straight answer, so I just shoved it in :P Hasn't gone poof yet, so must be good.

If you look at the PCB it says JAMMA. It's not a requirement of the JAMMA standard for a PCB to use all voltages. If a voltage is not needed the track is missing or not connected.

Back in the early 80's, some boards used -5volts, but soon after that technology improved and only +5V to run the pcb and +12volts to run the audio were needed.

BTW, I use my R-Type board in my cab with NO problems...

That misinformation on the klov site has been pissing me off for years. It's JAMMA. If you look at all the other M72 games they're actually listed as JAMMA. Funny thing is, the motherboard is EXACTLY THE SAME!

Edit: by the way, before anyone says 'send them corrections then' on the klov thing, I DID. It was correct for a while and someone has since uncorrected it with their retarded ramblings.

The PCB is JAMMA but weirdness was done to the PCB to make it fit the Nintendo cabinet:
