Why do they allow these ignorant assholes who know nothing about the genre to write reviews?
I know the game isn't in any top ten lists but it's not as bad as they say.
Oh Erik!
At least there's mainstream coverage of shmups, but IGN could easily use one of the established game journo's who know there shmups...
Yea, I saw that it was Erik. For a second I almost expected it to be some no-name freelancer.
Maybe I'll drop him an email. See if they respond on their podcast. ^^

I already emailed that no talent ass clown. I asked him how long he played the game, what his score was, any previous experience with shmups. You know, the important stuff.

A little harsh maybe...
It is hard to cover a game that will attract hardcore specialist readers in a publication designed for everyday laypersons. You've got to make it mean something for both..
Not that that's an excuse not to manage doing just that...

Erik Brudvig is one of the most idiotic reviewers on that site (or any site for that matter).
But your can't disagree with "For shoot-em-up perfectionists, this is Zen. For people looking to get some easy achievement points, this is hell."
~
"For normal gamers, this is Zen. For suckers looking to get some easy achievement points, this is hell."
"There are no offline leaderboards"
ZOMG?! O_o
also, x360 version come with "arrange-story" mode? with new bosses?
This is the first time I played Triggerheart. Sort of reminds me of a slightly different take on the GW / MM games. Although, once I get used to it (the whole anchor shot mechanic), it seems like it'd be much easier than those. While it's definitely not my favorite by any means...it's definitely decent (and nice to have good shooter on a big screen)
While I just started playing this...seems like there may be many scoring strats to be had.
btw: anyone know the hitboxes for both exelica and crueltear?
Well I got the three "gimme" achievements and that's about it for awhile.
My scores must really be sucking because I reached partway through stage 4 with only 35 million when I ran out of lives.
The people on top of the leaderboard have something over 200 million it looks like. *eep*

Arcade mode is the arcade game. No differences that I've noticed so far.
Grabbing and throwing enemies has both an offensive/defensive component and a scoring component. Enemies thrown into other enemies are extraordinarily damaging, and even if a throw fails to destroy an airborne enemy, it will often knock it clear of the screen. Enemies thrown will also cancel bullets along the path of the toss.
Destroying enemies and absorbing bullets with captured enemies releases small medals, which can be grown into large medals by holding the shot. Tossing enemies into other enemies releases larger medals. Destroying large enemies and boss forms turns all bullets onscreen into small medals. Larger medals with increase both your medal count and your score multiplier more than smaller medals.
Medals increase the multipler, while using captured enemies to destroy other enemies "cashes in", decreasing the multiplier in exchange for points and a quantity of large medals. An exception is during boss fights, where an enemy captured before the current stage of a battle can be tossed with no detrimental effect on multiplier.
V.B.A.S. system is basically set up so that when you destroy one lifebar of a boss, your current number of medals determines whether you move to the next form or destroy the boss. If you have enough medals after you destroy the last boss form in Stages 1 and 3, you'll fight Faintear. When you die, your medal count is reduced (to 3/4? 2/3?)
I thought I should quote this as I found it pretty helpful.
Good to see this came out worldwide on the same day. I only needed to spend a couple of minutes with the trial version before buying. This is easily worth 800 points. I like the mix of anchor usage and medal growing to vary up the scoring possibilities. The default button config is weird though. I find it much easier to have the anchor on the right trigger instead of B.
Usually I would agree about the controller but in this case, it works well for rotating the ship (I play with manual rotate as it seems it opens up more flexibility and technique...seems the way it's supposed to be played)
Yeah and as a matter of fact it appears as though you won't even register on the online board unless you are in the top 100. Leaves me out.
I'm used to playing this tate on my 22 inch lcd via dreamcast and finding the screen size on the 360 version to be way too small on my 32 inch aquos.
For some reason, putting this in tate mode gives it black bars on the top and bottom ends of the screen like I'm watching it in letterbox format, and this isn't like 100-150 pixels that can easily be fixed with a horizontal size adjustment either; it's about 12.5% of the screen for both ends and maxing out the horizontal size only sets it to Dreamcast tate size prior to the horizontal adjustment that easily fixes this.
Setting the aspect ratio to 4:3 doesn't help either; actually, it makes it worse since it scrunches it even moreseo because the game displays itself in letterbox format (same thing happened in Rev. X too).
I'll have to test this on other monitors first before I can make a better call on whether or not this is really Warashi really screwing up on this or the monitor I hooked up to it just sucks. I'm really hoping it's just the latter.
A lot of sound effects were changed too, and the most prominent ones (the main weapon firing and the enemies exploding) sound really wierd. Then again, I'm used to the DC sounds. I also didn't see the attract mode anywhere either. The loading times are still here too, which is just really wierd and should've been the major problem I would've expected them to fix for this port.
Good news is that the graphics looks less aliased and the voices are more audible, not to mention that the game is in English now. And it's cheap. Like, I punched-you-in-the-face-and-took-your-pants-that-had-your-wallet-in-it type of cheap.
i've had a similar problem as above ^ playing on a rotatable 4:3 monitor, the game is bordered widescreen in the first place then when tated it just uses a small part in the middle of the screen - which is rubbish as it should fill a 4:3 monitor in tate as that's how it was intended to be played in the first place might try some different resolutions to see if that helps though hope ikaruga isn't going to be like this. still it's cheap and fun
How do you get the swing mechanic to work? I'm still playing the Dreamcast version since I don't have a 360, and I could never figure out the swing rotation.
I grab an enemy, start to rotate the controller, and nothing happens......could someone please explain what I'm doing wrong?
I haven't played it in a while but I believe you also have to press shot while grappling to make it rotate. Otherwise, you'll just move around while holding onto it.

That's pretty much it. Hold down the fire button, and then move your character in the direction you want to start swinging the thing. I personally do the full circular motion. Once you get your swing at a decent speed, you can stop holding the fire button so you don't accidentally make it too fast or too slow (with the latter usually happening).
A lot of people (not regular shmuppers) don't really seem to be getting Trigger Heart, I guess this is one of those games which isn't really all that exciting when just played casually.
A lot of people are calling it a bullet hell as well, does bullet hell just mean vertical nowadays?
Well, I already have the DC version but I did my part and bought the XBLA version last night. Glad I did. Warashi did a great job and it's far more convenient for me to play this on my 360 rather than fire up my DC.

TeamXbox has a somewhat more fair review, however the only flaw they point out in the game is the lack of tate mode... I guess they never even bothered to check the settings?
What are the requirements for the true endings?
I think you need to clear the game without any continues. I'm not sure if all Faintear boss encounters are needed also.
All the Faltear boss encounters are necessary. I don't know if all boss forms in all the levels are necessary (I think when I got the True Ending, I had fought them all), but Faltear is.
EDIT: You just need to beat Faltear twice.
