Because Border Down is brutally difficult. Well, it might be easier if you're playing for survival. But playing for score? Jesus...
Playing for score and survival go hand in hand on BD.
Going for a basic 6A 1CC whilst keeping the rank low isn't too hard as you say jp.
A red start 6D route to the 6D ALL is pretty intense from the Stage 5 Boss onwards.
An ultimate score path involving Stage 3 Green from a Stage 1 red start is indeed brutal from the outset. ie. R/R/R>Y/Y/Y>G/G/G>GY/YR/R>YR/R/R->6D YR/R/R-ALL
Sorry to dig this thread up, but I was able to purchase a copy of the reprint today from NCSX. The posted a brief message on 2/19/08 that they had received some copies from the 1/17/08 sale. I contacted them and I had to wait until today for them to sell me a copy.
In the end it cost $128 ($136 with shipping), but I think thats worth it considering the Ebay prices. So if any anyone still wants a copy, it may not hurt to email NCSX.
I got mine for 63.11 euros / 93.56 USD (7140 yen + 20% fee) from a store located in Japan and called Direct from Japan. (I know, the website is ugly)
I've just checked and he can ship anywhere.
It's probably too late for Border Down, as I guess that by now, the reprint sale must have ended in Japan(?). If it isn't too late, he could probably order another copy (just one since the website says people cannot buy more than 2 copies each, I believe).

But if you're playing for score, like, to get the highest possible score, then you wouldn't be going after 6A would you? I was referring to starting at Red, moving up to Green for stage 3's boss, and then going back.
When I say playing for survival, I'm referring to the 6A path (Start at green, border down, border back up, rinse and repeat to balance rank). When I'm referring to playing for score, I am very much referring to the ultimate score path you mentioned.

It's a *majorly* ugly website. I can't even tell that Border Down was ever for sale there, much less that they'd be in for selling the reprint. Nothing from current systems (PSP or DS, even), and as you said...it's not a good website. Yike.

^Absolutely correct jp, that is indeed the hardest route with highest scoring potential.

The 6A and 6D WRs are actually a lot closer to each other than you may think though - way up in the 300s. This is due to the fact that the ultimate Stage 1R-3G route is the same for both 6A and 6D. They only vary after Stage 3G.

I should've been clearer, as the website is enterely in French.
No, Border Down doesn't appear on his website, because it's a "custom" order :
you can ask him to order about anything (games, artbooks or whatever) you want in Japan, he'll make the order for you and forward the item to you; You owe him the item(s) price + 20% fee (+shippings fees, of course).
I think some other websites propose the same kind of service.
So far, since the reprint was released, I've seen three on eBay, all of which were fixed-priced at over $100 USD (not including shipping). And everytime I asked the seller (just out of curiousity) if they were selling one of the reprints or a 1st print copy, I never got a response.
The reprints are identical to the 1st issues aren't they, so unless you buy a ltd edition, and you buy a copy now, you'll never know if you've bought a reprint or not.
There are lots of them on Yahoo.JP, all starting at 10,000 Yen and none appear to be selling. I'm kind of unhappy with NCSX about how they handled this, as there is no way they paid anywhere close to $128 for their copies and they could have very easily worked with the manufacturer to print another 1,000 or so copies to meet demand. Heck, there is a copy on Ebay now with a BIN of $129, so it's not like they are doing anyone a favor. Still, if you don't have one yet, I suspect some will start trickling down for less than the current going rate, especially as more and more auctions go unbid on.
I guess I should have sold my original sealed copy since now there is no way to prove otherwise. Given it was a limited reprint, I'm sure it will raise in value again.
Dave_K., you wanted to sell me your sealed copy (IIRC) for $140, or somewhere close to that. And I think these reprints will be fetching something similar (or higher) in the near future.
