It will keep outselling for a long time to come because people are buying them as Blu-ray players now that HD-DVD has been discontinued. However, that's part of the problem. The game attach rate on the PlayStation (and the Wii, for that matter) is a lot less than on the 360. Games sell better on the 360 and that will keep driving support for it.
Ceph, you are definitely smart and stuff, but what I think what Jpj is getting at is that the 360 market is already long established. As the console has been selling very well at market for over two years now, the prospective buyers for new consoles naturally decreases.PS3 has outsold 360 for 8 weeks in a row now, last week by 50,000 units worldwide
A natural example would be the release of Halo 3 - the 360 userbase is so established that it pushes the title into record breaking figures on release.
A console like the PS3, for whom many have been holding out for a price drop, is now primed to start shifting at a faster rate.
Unfortunately for Sony, a business like theirs make their profit from software rather than hardware - and this is where you can really acknowledge a gulf of difference. It seems highly unlikely that Namco will expect to turn more profit out of the PS3 release of Devil May Cry 4 than they will from the 360 release, as there are less consoles installed worldwide.
In that light, I think you can agree the current sales figures don't amount to much at all, especially as Sony are still shifting machines at a loss.
Thanks!

1. Namco makes DMC? Get your facts straight.Skykid wrote:It seems highly unlikely that Namco will expect to turn more profit out of the PS3 release of Devil May Cry 4 than they will from the 360 release, as there are less consoles installed worldwide.

2. Sony is currently selling PS3s' at cost. No gain, no loss.

my point is that nintendo have made a profit on each and every DS, DS Lite, and Wii console they've sold. which is a shit-ton. and neither microsoft nor sony have made a profit yet from their next-gen ventures. so from a business perspective, they're both failures. to be fair, microsoft would've made a profit, but now they've set aside $1billion for extended warranties and repairs, that's gone out of the window.
comparing 360 and ps3 hardware sales is a bit irrelavent because neither business is actually making any money from those sales.
so let's talk software...

Ceph, why are you so hung up on sales. You own a neo cd (so do I btw)..... come on.
still, those DMC4 sales aren't that far from one another. Plus I'm sure almost any PS3 owner bought DMC4, it's not like they have as much to choose from.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
I'm not hung up on numbers. That was just a reply to Skykid's post.
Besides, I simply stated that currently PS3 is outselling X360 on a worldwide scale and that the current top-selling game of both consoles has sold more copies for PS3 so far.
Large software developers predict that the trend of PS3 consoles outselling 360 will continue throughout 2008.
PS.
Who gives a damn about Wii. This thread is about 360 vs. PS3.

I would like to mention that Team Ico's next game is going to be on the PS3. Might be cross-platform, but it's known for certain it's going to be on the PS3. (Team Ico is Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.)
I'm still on the fence myself.
I'm still appreciating last-gen's. =D

Though I imagine in the long run the 360 version will sell the best, since it is consistently selling far more than the PS3 version in the US and thats where the bulk of sales come from.
The problem is, the Japanese refuse to support a US console, despite the fact that the exact same shit they're buying the PS3 for is on it, so its putting the 360 at a disadvantage here.
But who knows. Maybe they'll take their heads out of their collective ass once Infinite Undiscovery and Tales of Vesperia come out. I doubt it, but maybe.
Also, like JPJ already said, the big Xbox360 release has come and gone, and that was in November. 17 million people already own 360s. But I can almost guarantee you that 360 sales will be higher for '08 than the PS3 simply because of Gears of War 2 and Fable 2. If Infinite Undiscovery actually comes out this year, I imagine it'll see another little spike in Japan like it did with Blue Dragon and Ace Combat 6. Oh, and lets not forget Ninja Gaiden 2 shall we?
Oh, one other factor:
This might just be a local thing, but all the stores around here have remainded fairly consistently SOLD OUT of Xbox360s. Its been that way since Christmas. So like... if there aren't many consoles out there to sell... and there's stacks and stacks of PS3s everywhere you go... then logic would dictate that ___________.

Haha, you only further prove how little you know with each post you make. Keep it coming. I'm quite entertained over here.Unfortunately for Sony, a business like theirs make their profit from software rather than hardware (lol what) - and this is where you can really acknowledge a gulf of difference. It seems highly unlikely that Namco(LOL)will expect to turn more profit out of the PS3 release of Devil May Cry 4 than they will from the 360 release, as there are less consoles installed worldwide.(lol what)

jpj: VGChartz is definitely not a reliable or credible source. Their compiled based on guesses, and a site code that automatically adds to sales as time goes on. It;s entirely inaccurate. Same goes for ConsolesWarz and whatever other "game numbers site with" a "Z" at the end. Run by children.

Pew Pew.

I was enrolled back in '04 at Oakwood, but I've sense dropped out. I can't believe I'm still here. Weather's nice, it's quiet, and the job opportunities are lovely. I work at Boeing, or all places now, if that says anything.jp wrote:That is crazy. You going to school here or what?

They make games that have personality and are easily identifiable. Disgaea, Soul Nomad, Phantom Brave and the likes can`t be mistaken(both stylistically and gameplay-wise) with Dragon Force, Tactics Ogre, Fire Emblem, Front Mission, Dark Wizard, Shining Force and whatnot. Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey on the other hand immediately remind everyone of Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.NIPPON ICHI MAKES ORIGINAL TITLES?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
It will never be cross-platform. Not unless Sony goes belly up at least. Team Ico is an internal development team within SCE of Japan. Their games are more first-party than Gran Turismo.I would like to mention that Team Ico's next game is going to be on the PS3. Might be cross-platform, but it's known for certain it's going to be on the PS3. (Team Ico is Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.)
HA HA! Geez, dunno where that came from - I was at work and typed it up quick!Namco makes DMC? Get your facts straight.

Not saying you're wrong, just curious where you sourced that info. Link would be coolSony is currently selling PS3s' at cost. No gain, no loss.

Ceph, cheers for the DMC sales figures - I'm suprised. I certainly didn't state that as fact though, I only made an assumption based on the number of installed systems. It would make sense though that due to a lack of titles, this one would be a massive seller for the PS3 simply because of
less choice.
But come on guys, that post was addressing the question of the PS3 outselling the 360 since December. Everyone just ignores that part of the post!

Yeah Spazicon, I've heard of that! That's like in Afterburner when the section comes up when you need to refuel theEver heard of signing out? Or just plane unplugging your system when you're chip is on?
plane and you need to guide the fuel link into the back. But instead you sit in your living room, and when the
plane appears, you run the fuel line from your console into the F-17! When you're done, you can unplug the
plane from your system, but not when the chip is on right?

Something similar appeared in IGN and other gaming sites, but I'm too lazy to check.
