Metal Black's BGM is perfectly suited to that particular game. The first stage BGM gives it a mood of hope amidst the devastation.

I'm not sure whether it was just general background music or the actual music for Daifukkatsu at the AOU. But Ondo? Ugh. I'm hoping that's not the official track for the game.
I'd bet the house that "Dooon-dooooon-doooon, doon-paa-chii" music isn't in the game, especially after Manabu Namiki's previous work for DOJ. That tune just doesn't belong in DFK, but it'd be fine for a "Paro-pachi".
Twin Eagle on the NES has the worst soundtrack, easily. The arcade version's BGM is OK with a decent sample quality, although fairly repetitive.

I assume you mean Alpha Mission II, Ghost Pilots and Last Resort...I think those were the only shmups that were actually developed by SNK. But if you mean the entire Neo library of shmups...how could you say that? Pulstar? Viewpoint? Just to name a few...they were "uninspired"? They most certainly had good soundtracks, especially Viewpoint. Even Last Resort and AMII had good soundtracks.
Andro Dunos was lack-luster as a a shmup period...music included.
I like Andro Dunos too as well as Last Resort. Ghost Pilots is a'ight but it's a friggin' marathon. Altogether I think the Neo has a pretty decent lineup of shmups if you're into the older style.
@ROBO: when are we going to be able to drag you away from FNG to come hang w/ us again at a shmupmeet?

My picks: Okay maybe not worst but definitely least memorable.
Every Psikyo game ever.
Technically no-one did; Plasmo said he meant to list Bio Metal (PAL version) and has since edited his post to reflect that. All actual mentions of MB in this topic were positive.

My girlfriend and I just finished Metal Black and I thought everything about it rocked, including the soundtrack. We were playing the version on Taito Legends 2(PS2), if that makes any difference.

Same OST on the TL2 version, luckily. I don't know of any other shooters with region-specific OSTs, actually... I wonder if there are others besides Bio Metal.
The NES version of MagMax has an awful soundtrack.
That's especially true for the underground screens that use a double-speed/rekeyed version of the arcade version's initials screen music... looped over and over until one teleports back to the above ground level.
Nobody said Pink Sweets yet? At my local arcade Progear has the sound set embarrassingly loud, but when I play it I can still hear Pink Sweets, which has it's sound at a normal volume, vomiting it's gaudy sound bile into my ears.
I even like happy-hardcore/old skool rave and it's too much...
I hate hate hate hate hate HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE!!!!111!one Radilgy's soundtrack.
It's funky in the wrong way, it's awesomely boring, frustrating and dissonant. I hate it. I wish it were dead.
legion on pc engine..... CD game with shit chip music.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

you are stupid as fuck that soundtrack is superb WAY above normal video game music its good music stand alone . Dodonpachi and bakraid could have both benefited from better soundtracks .

Bakraid has great soundtrack that perfectly fits the mood of the game. I don't see what's wrong with it.
DDP music is also pretty good IMO, although it would be better with more than 4 songs.
"A game isn't bad because you resent it. A game is bad because it's shitty."

Welcome to the world of different opinions, dimwit.
Why does everyone seem to hate Pink Sweets and Progear soundtracks so? I've never understood it :/ I think the Progear music is inspired, and still has that old-school vgm sound. Perhaps not instantly catchy though. Pink Sweets is great if you like MN's stuff, I think. Seem to be quite a few MN haters around here though :(
Oh, I used to hate that COME ON! track in Gigawing too, but it really grew on me, lol.

Progear first stage music: three note loop
Progear second stage music: two note loop
Progear third stage music: a random note here and there, most of the time you only hear your own shots
...and so on. I don't really hate it, but it could have been much better if it wasn't THAT simple and repetitive.
And answering the topic: Dodonpachi is unbeatable in terms of crappy music.
