Holy Sh*t here come the Nintendogs!

Nintendo DS owners are apparently going crazy over this puppy sim in Japan. It has been reported that even mature adults in the U.S. that have imported this game are falling in love with the cute little critters. Check out the video here;

That is the most insanely cute thing I have ever seen! I had to see this one in motion to be a believer--and I guess it is going to be brought over to the US. Is it time to buy a DS? I don't know, but that is one freakin' cute game!

Oh, and apparently you can get different versions of the game with different puppies. Wow!

Funny, I mentioned to my friend the other day one of the reasons Nintendo isn't going down is because of kids (recicling pokemon on 'em) and s***ers who buy these kind of games. Nobody but Nintendo can make them.

I don't see the appeal in this. It's little more than a glorified tamagotchi. After the initial novelty wears off, people are going to realize Nintendo sacked their wallets again.

I would tell you're right, if only the other side had not promoted PSP with the launch of Ridge Racer and Wipeout.

I mean, yeah, it's a glorified tamagotchi, but it feels new enough. With stylus, touch screen and vocal control.

I think that PSP will prove an overall better system, but it needs to get out from the "oh, it's 1995 all again!" syndrome FAST.

If you thought that by playing a handheld made you look geeky, well, imagine talking to and "petting" the screen when showing your "virtual pet" some love.

I always considered these type "games" to be a total waste of time.
Probably cool if your 5 years old or something...

yes, and that's exactly Iwata's point: he told to developers that they have to force themselves into creating games that they would never want to play to begin with.

Imagine, might be that nintendogs programmers want to do Thunderforce VI, but they cannot. Iwata's theory is that DS must appeal to an audience that is NOT the usual hardcore gamer.

Twitchdoctor not liking the idea is a proof Iwata is half way through is goal.

This is another example of "to each his/her own". For example, my wife and I both really enjoyed Animal Crossing on the GameCube. Matter of fact, other than a localised version of Ikaruga, it was one of the main reasons we bought the thing - we played at a friend's house & were absolutely hooked. However, my wife is currently fascinated w/ Harvest Moon: It's a Wonderful Life for GC and I see why, but it doesn't do anything for me.

It got a 40/40 in Famitsu...

... have any PSP games even gotten gold ratings in Famitsu yet? I know like, 4 (Yoshi's Touch N Go, Pac Pix, Kirby's Magic Paintbrush, and obviously Nintendogs) have...

Plus, you must give Nintendo's credit that the whole thing is working great in Japan, as the game sells a lot and sells the DS a lot too.

I too don't find myself nursing doggies, but sales cannot be contested. UFO said it's a tamagotchi: if it booms like tamagotchi or even better pokemon, PSP is already a good-looking Lynx.

Frankly, it would be risky for Nintendo to compete on the "hardcore" ground, moreover with a technically inferior system. As much as Castlevania DS can please some fans, the DS' success will be based upon products like Wario Ware or Nintendogs. Fresh original ideas, that try to use touch, double screen, etc at their best (something Castlevania, as we already said in that thread, CANNOT do).

I hope not of course, since Xevious, Sengoku Cannon etc already show how PSP has great potential for shmups. But despite my love for shmups, if DS is planning to sell on Nintendogs, while PSP on, well, "Tekken", then I must hope in sony's defeat.

Folks at Spong are quite enthusiast with Nintendogs fever' size:

"Nintendogs: The Biggest Game on the Planet Right Now"

"Nintendo Money Mountain set to grow – the birth of a phenomenon."

http://news.spong.com/x?art=8633

worthy a read.

Zelda "I'm drowning in the sea" WW was given 40/40 too, and it was a triumph of boredom.

I hate dogs... well, I hate dogs that aren't seeing-eye dogs and police dogs (i.e. useful dogs). You know.. the ones that are rude and bark at everything and defecate on public property (although the owners would be to blame for this too, for being irresponsible and not putting down the smack). If I catch one urinating on my bike while it's parked at a rack you can bet I'll kick that piece of **** mutt so hard...

Oh, and they stink too. And they have parasites.
If I'm ever forced to play Nintendogs, I'd say this so loud: "Awwwww, isn't that so cute? Poochie HAS A ****ING TAPEWORM!"

This release coupled with the pink DS set the sales on fire in Japan. I think they sold 95,000 systems last week.

Wind Waker was great... the only problem with it were the fanboys that couldn't imagine Zelda done any other way.

Nintendogs ain't my thing, but it's something different, I'll give them that. Nintendo is the new Sega, in that they're damned if they do, damned if they don't. Glad to see them doing what they want to do.

And finally, Kirby's Magic Paintbrush, besides the absolutely horrid English title they've given it, is a brilliant game. Definitely deserved the 40/40... I can't find one thing wrong with it. Fun as shit and unlockables out the ass!

I love Wind Waker style and I'm really saddened that the next one will look like crap again, like Ocarina mixed with FFXI.

That said, WW is extremely boring because of the water, and all those maps and triforce shards to look for.

Ok, I try to respect all lifeforms... But what about microorganism, are they better or worse than humanity? I kill lots of microorganism when I breathe.

And what about insects?

I don't have a stake in either side of the PSP vs. DS debate, but I couldn't give two shits what Famitsu's opinion of a game is...they're the Japanese game informer equivalent

Famitsu is respected in Japan... so I felt I would chime in. *shrugs*

I don't think Famitsu gave Wind Waker a 40/40... I don't remember though. At least I hope they didn't, as that came turned simply horrid towards the end. Bleh.

As for Nintendogs, I'll buy it just because it'll be the only DS came to come out in the month it comes out in.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! How adorable. I'm a sucker for puppies. Christ, that looks like a great mindless waste of time.

Can you design your own dogs, like the fur patterns, or do you have to choose from a certain set of breeds?

I wish they'd make Nintencats. Of course, you can't really play with a cat, but the felines deserve some digital lovin'.

Holy shit, Nintendo should release Nintencats and Nintendogs, and then have some way that you can have the cats and dogs interact. If you introduce them the right ways, they'll become friends. Otherwise, they'll snarl at each other. Of course, they'll have to still be adorable doing it.

Ducks practice gang-rape rather routinely, cats like to kill things just to play with them, and the female praying mantis eats the male after (or during) mating. And an insane number of species make a habit of eating their own young (including dolphins, the cute little buggers).

Nature ain't some wonderful, glorious thing where all life exists together in perfect harmony. It's just easier to observe the good and bad sides of humanity because that's the society we exist in. We don't really get a regular, intimate, lifelong look at the structure of an ant colony.

Like the Atari Lynx... does it mean the PSP deserves RESPECT?! But we were supposed to dislike Sony, right? Or not? Damn, I'm so confused now!
