Maryland is a pretty good place for beer. I actually work about a 2 minute drive from the Dogfish Head restaurant here in Gaithersburg. The food actually isn't all that good, but I don't usually go for the food anyway. I've never actually had the 120 minute IPA, you can't get it at the restaurant for some reason, and I haven't seen it in any stores in the area. Probably not my thing anyway, I don't like the really hoppy beers much.
Better still is the local place up in Frederick called Brewers Alley, which makes a really good Oatmeal Stout among lots of other good beers. The owners also run a place called Isabella's which is a Tapas bar, which has REALLY good food and serves some of the same beers as well.
There's ANOTHER local brewery/restaurant in Gaithersburg called Growlers, although I've not been there since it changed management. Need to go over there some day, although it's unfortunately in a part of town that tends to have really shitty traffic.
And a bit south in Bethesda there's a Rock Bottom, which makes pretty good beer along with some really good food. I need to get back there and get some more Chicken Fried Chicken.

I almost came in my pants when I tasted the 60 Minute at the brewery over the summer. It just sucked cause they didn't have a lot of stuff on draft when I was down there. I'd love to get down there now as they have the 60, 90 and 120 IPAs on draft as well as the world wide stout. Last night when I went to see Om, the bar had Chicory stout on draft.CMoon wrote:

I'm not a fan of whites either. I always wind up drinking a ton of them because they're so light. Though I would like to try that Southampton double white.Looking back at that Top 25 list, I can't believe Great Lakes Holy Moses was rated so high. I bought a bottle once and thought it was terrible, I couldn't even finish the thing. It was my first and only white beer, though, so maybe I just hate the style. In any case, there are much better Great Lakes beers to choose from (e.g., any of them).

Police hunt for stolen Guinness
By Diarmaid Fleming
BBC NI Dublin correspondent
Guinness factory
Kegs of Guinness were driven out of the brewery yard
Gardai in Dublin are on the lookout for 36,000 pints of beer stolen from the Guinness brewery.
More than 400 kegs were stolen in what is likely to be the largest carry-out of drink this Christmas.
A man drove a truck into the yard on Wednesday, and left with a trailer containing 180 Guinness kegs, 180 Budweiser kegs, and 90 Carslberg kegs.
Police estimated the haul to be worth at least 64,000 euros (£46,000), at wholesale prices.
However, this figure would be considerably more if Dublin pub prices were charged.
The robbery occurred the same day as a special Garda operation known as Freeflow was launched to ease traffic congestion and combat drink-driving over Christmas.
Freeflow officers manning many checkpoints across the city are expected now also to be on the look out for any large quantity of stolen drink flowing through Dublin's traffic.
The stolen trailer has since been found at Slane Hill in County Meath. It was empty.

Disliking one so called absinthe doesn´t guarantee a disliking of the next one you try.
Get educated through websites on what´s quality and what´s not. Check your local liquor store for availability of said quality and enjoy.
A few bottles of Duvel is way better than any amount of absinthe though.

Well, being the winter, I have a major hard on for green tea this time of year. So when I saw this at the store, it was an instant GET:

pretty tasty stuff, very sugary though, at some times too much. Nice for shots or in tea. Not so nice with citrus vodka (suggested on the back of the bottle).
I'll prolly pick some more up next time I hit a club or a party or something as it looks cool, tastes girly, and is a unique flavor for a drank that demands you try it.

I very rarely drink alcohol; too often, the taste is just terribly bitter, and I don't enjoy the taste of bitter.
That being said, when I do indulge (usually around 8-10 drinks per year or so), it's almost always a sissy-girlie-drink, that could just as easily be served with fruit, an umbrella, or whatever people normally put into drinks. I like sweet drinks like an amaretto (preferably Disaronno) sour, a frozen strawberry margarita, a different Spanish lime/sugar cane-based drink whose name escapes me at the moment, or something like that.
No beer...I don't drink swill. No wine...they haven't made one blush enough for me yet. No hard liquor, except for medicinal purposes, and even then, I hate them to my core.
I do have a special place in my heart reserved for a spiced rum from Jamaica called Rum Jumbie, which I only discovered within the past few years or so. It's incredible, sweet, and I believe that it's the smoothest liqueur I've ever imbibed, straight. I can just enjoy the entire process of ingesting it, from the scent, to the sight, to the first sip, letting it roll around my mouth for a minute, coating it entirely, opening up the nasal passages for full flavor, and, finally, allowing it passage slowly down my throat, with the wonderful warmth it provides.
Good stuff, that.

Could someone give me a brief tutorial on Stouts? Right in this moment i am enjoying a Carlton stout* and trying to understand if I am doing something wrong, since it has some sparkle (Oz beers, except for James Squire ones, betray a certain brit/southern german style).

Red Hook ESB is pretty damn fine and kind of a standard. ESB stands for "Extra Special Bitters." Good English style bitter and easy to find.
Hale's Cream Stout is also hella good, although its a bit harder to find in your average pub. But if you are in Seattle, just head down to the brewery!
Also, There a small bar on 2nd in Belltown called 'Shorty's' which has some good regional/microbrews from the Pacific Northwest as well as some old-skool arcades and a superbadass pinball room. Bike messengers and hipsters abound, and the heavy metal is in full effect. It's a great place for a pint.

I like Boulevard's Wheat beer... I've been drinking that and Rolling Rock. Only started enjoying beer recently. I guess Rolling rock falls into that college beer thing huh, especially now that they are owned by Busch.
OK I ADMIT IT, I just wanted to be like angry nintendo nerd, ok

I had a few good ones recently.
Brooklyn Black Chocolate stout -Real fucking dark. Real fucking thick. Damn good and not that pricey. 10%.
Green Flash West Coast IPA - Bitter as all hell, very clean tasting. Unfiltered. Pretty excellent IPA. 7%
I also tried Wychwood BahHumbug Christmas ale, which I wasn't too keen on and my girlfriends mom's English husband to be brought me a few bottles from England for Christmas; one Fursty Ferret one Bishops Finger. I drank the Bishops Finger and it was ok. Not great but not awful either.
I also drank one of the Dogfish 120 min IPAs I've been aging. Pretty similar to what it was like a year ago. Maybe a bit sweeter tasting. Nice half inch of nasty sediment/yeast at the bottom of the bottle. Shit was like dark red/brown cloudy gunk while the rest of the beer was a clear dark amber.

Dog Fish head 90 IPA is a great beer, I need to say. What shall I drink now that I am in Boston, though...?

You should be able to get a ton of Sam Adams stuff. The Imperial Pilsner is pretty good. Allagash is in Portland so you might be able to find some of their beers around. I haven't tried any of their stuff but supposedly they are one of the best American producers of Belgian style ales.Randorama wrote:Dog Fish head 90 IPA is a great beer, I need to say.
