Shmup with the Worst soundtrack

Post by nimitz »

What is the shmup with the worst soundtrack ever, I don't mean because its too forgetable or badly arranged (for ports). I mean music so bad that it keeps you away from the game or makes you mute it when playing. It can be because its badly composed, repetitive, unfitting or just plain bad.

doujin shmups don't count.

I vote for Under defeat...the composition itself isn't THAT bad, but it makes you fall asleep and just doesn't fit the game at all. yet i think Border down has a nice fitting soundtrack.

Im sure UD could be much more enjoyable with a nice soundtrack.

Rezon. Each track is a 5 second sample repeated over and over again.

The main theme from 1942 sounds like one of the primary sound sources was a guy farting into a microphone in 4/4 time.

R-Type. The songs are just cheesy but the sound chip they used... oh my god. It sounds like 1981, not 1987.

Can you say "The Earth Defense"? Not only is it a thunderingly bad game, but the music is totally generic & rather dumb.

Yes. Especially since it's a bootleg of Kyukyoku Tiger and could have used the same music.

Asteroids. THERE IS NONE. Just kidding, going to go with Thunder Dragon 2. LAME AS HELL.

For all those who say Battle Bakraid, I have two words for you: Terrible, and Object.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

This is what immediately came to mind when I saw the topic title. Capcom games usually have decent music, too. Who the hell let this slip by?

Under Defeat gets props just for stage 5. I love the music in stage 5.

My vote definitely goes to Dragon Blaze. Fucking barf.

Master of Weapon.

Gulf War 2 is an excellent nomination too.

Why pick on Under Defeat :( the Level 1 theme is a classic imo- for newer stuff, Zero Gunner 2 is a much easier target. Not that the rest of the game is without it's flaws, but the mediocre soundtrack hurts that game the most.
