King of Fighters XII
who cares.... would we get either if it were not for capcom. do you think snk's staff is with playmore? do you think the same team is doing all those playmore games each and every time.
capcom is getting both those done either way and they look great. if you want to argue buisness models and practices go ahead...

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
no offence strider, but i really don't think you know what you're talking about.
playmore bought a bankrupt SNK, released games on the neo geo hardware, released NEW IP's on the neo geo hardware, supported the arcades, released a lot of back catalogue on ps2 (you moan because you're playing poor home versions - but at least you have home versions to play. unlike your beloved cave), and so and so on.

It's still not Capcom(EA didn't make the Burnout games). Both those games look awesome though. A Capcom made 2-D fighter will probably never happen again(not that it needs to considering the fan base).
SF4 seems like a valiant attempt and I'm one of the few people I know who actually thinks it will be good.
And I'm almost positive that one of the SF4 developers said that 2-D was too inconvenient to do.

Point is this: While Capcom is both catering to and alienating it's fan-base by going all Street Fighter 2 3D at least SNK has the balls to stick to it's roots while progressing things.
The only thing Capcom needs to do to stop the other half of us whining fan boys is stick EX on the title, why they didn't is beyond me.
But then again Street Fighter Online Mouse Generation seems to be a good indicator of their wavering sanity.

nope... arcade are fake hi res also. and the neo geo efforts were the poorest of the playmore lot.you moan because you're playing poor home versions - but at least you have home versions to play. unlike your beloved cave
i think this kof hd is the right step. alot of companies including capcom have made dumb decisions on this.
i think true hi res sprites are a must if you are doing a hi res game. arc pulled it off with GG alond time ago before they had a following. it just took some work.
lets just agree that this new KOF is the right call and a good thing. if this sort of thing is done from now on it can only be a good thing for us.
i'm not basing my opinions on home ports... cave has done right on making their games and has put the work into them, it shows.

Mouse Gen isn't even being developed by Capcom, let alone it's quite obvious by it's gameplay alone, it's not a serious fighter.
Anyway, it's really a great time to be a Fighting Game fan, in '08.
BlazBlue
Soul Calibur 4
KOF XII
SFIV
Samurai Spirits Sen
Tekken 6
Virtua Fighter 5 R
Smash Bros. Brawl
And the list goes on (Arcana Heart 2, new Melty Blood revision, Guilty Gear revision, Fate/Stay Unlimited...)

jesus... really? I mean compared to SNK's neo efforts? almost everyone agrees that 2001 and 2002 were some of the worst that I've seen. some of those backgrounds look downright incomplete and the music sucked.SNKP's Neo Geo games were in fact, awesome.
I'd take MOTW, Showdown 2, 3, and 4 and KOFs 95 through 98, then 2000 anyday over those. then there is SSF2T, 3rd strike, alpha 2 and 3 over the playmore alot. then guilty gear.... these listed games looked and played great. I want both... especially with such a gluten of titles to choose from.
The playmore titles aren't awful... they just aren't what I'd call cream of the crop out of ALL the 2D fighters out there. and I think at least part of that is either lazyness or a lack of know how.
Plus the 1st few posts from you guys is capcom sucks basically... well capcom in their history has made some MUCH better looking games that play pretty damn awsome to boot. This goes for the real SNK also. I think it's sad that a company can't pull something off better at least in visuals if not gameplay years later with much stronger hardware (MVS/CPS2 and 3 vs atomiswave).
It's not like ARC had shitloads of IPs and cash ect when they put out GG for the 1st time in arcades. It looks miles better regardless if it's your playstyle.
I was a bit more understanding in the beginning for playmore.... but it's been years and now we are finally getting a game that they have had to sit and make from scratch. Something all the other game makers have managed to do themselves at one point. Hell even this isn't something from scratch totally.....
If they keep this up I'll have a different outlook on them. But it's gonna take alot more than one game like this to make me start saying capcom sucks and playmore shits on them anyday......

for what it's worth, i haven't been posting any "capcom sux" or anything. i think sf4 does look wank, but i probably play SFII about two hours a day, every day.
the thing with snk (original) though, is they were so prolific in their heyday. motw, last blade, kof 99 (yeah, i said 99
) were awesome. but if you look at how many beat-'em-ups snk released on the neo, a large percentage were crap. the tough part for playmore is that they have relatively few games released, and their criticisms are harsher because they aren't done retro-actively.
anyways, trailer looks really cool

You can't be talking about 12 right now. This game is better looking then 3rd Strike or anything else.Strider77 wrote:

But whatever, I'll just agree to disagree.

I don't get where anyone got "Capcom sucks" out of what I posted, but I didn't say that. ~oh, another person said that.~
Also, I agree that KOF 2000 and 2001 weren't their best, but you have to remember that 2003 was Neo Geo, and that was damned good, and the start of what looks to be a streak of awesome KOF titles. I also loved '02 aswell, as did many others. It was a big step up from '00 and '01.
And SNKP has demonstrated awesome work on other platforms, aswell. Battle Coliseum, for example was fucking great. I suggest you check it out, if you haven't yet.
But I digress, we shouldn't turn this topic into a long winded debate, when the glorious news in the form of XII has just surfaced.
Good games though. I'm a fan of Noise Factory titles, myself.

Ii looks better resolution wise just like guilty gear but I am still skeptic if the animation is up to 3rd strike. I hope it is.... would really like it to have the best of both together for the 1st time. You can't be talking about 12 right now. This game is better looking then 3rd Strike or anything else.

Interesting... looks like oldschool Terry at 00:40. Maybe he's available as an alternate version, if he's not a placeholder. I doubt they'd go back from his MOTW look in 2003 and XI.

Interesting. I thought they were talking about including Rock Howard in XII a while back, so I wasn't expecting this at all...
Not that I mind. I prefer his Garou look to be kept to that game.

it could be done.... drawing in hi res is no problem. drawing new sprites is drawing new sprites. it's work either way, it's no more or less than doing it for the 1st time regardless if it's hi or low res. it's bothering to have them do it as much as 3rd strike.I don't think KoF need animation like SF3rd... too many chars. Too hard to do.
Anyway, Capcom can't do even that
it's be awsome to see that animation level with hi res to boot in action. but standard KOF animation with HI res will be nice to.

Yes you can, the 3D ones are a side story just like Street Fighter EX was.

samurai is going soul calibur... looks lame, totally changed the gameplay.

It's Samurai Spirits Sen, not seven so it might also be a side story like the other 3d samurai games.
Samurai Shodown VI was 2D, a fact many disregard because it's not on mame yet.

I'd like to see more footage than the 10 sec. or so they show of the game. The animation does look good, but is there a better source than the youtube link? (I couldn't get the rapidshare one to work.)
As usual I wonder if people aren't jumping the gun because this video doesn't really tell me that much about the game--and I'm definitely not ready to say it looks better than SF3 on that.

The games did have a few flaws, but they managed to pull through. And now look. I think XII is about to completely kick SFIV's ass.jpj wrote:i can't agree with this...Strider77 wrote: 2... count them 2 ok titles after how many years is it now... after playmore bought up SNKs IPs then their SNK handle.
Remember 00:26.
SNK seems to blend old school with new school. And unfortunately, I'm afraid Capcom can't seem to quit with the old school. Normally that wouldn't matter, as SNK has been doing this for about a good decade. But Capcom just does it wrong.
........Some of the animation in SF3 is quite bad. Elena looks like she was rotoscoped by someone without a clue and some of the characters have really rubbish shuffle walkcycles.
