Button cell voltages
Button cell voltages
I grabbed a pile of CR2032 batteries on ebay for my DC, saturn and SNES carts. Can anyone say how low the voltage has to drop before there's a risk of the memory disappearing?

SNES carts use various size srams (6216/64/28/256) to hold the data. From what I've learned the data should still be valid on them at a minimum power supply voltage of 2.0 volts.
Same thing applies to the DC and SAT if they use similar/same memories.

The voltage is not a good guide on how good a battery is. Lithium cells don't degrade gracefully, they hold their voltage pretty well for the duration, then suddenly drop out.

I can attest to inserting an official SNK branded CR-2032 button cell battery into the SNK Neo-Geo Pocket Color handheld in April of 2000 and it lasted until about April-May of 2005 before the red LED indicator told me to replace it before "immenient game memory back-up is lost". I replaced the aging SNK branded 2032 battery with a fresh one and it's been a solid performer since then... ^_~
