Wii Wi-Fi issues...

Post by dave4shmups »

I'd rather ask this question here then on Lamefaqs, so here it goes. We have high-speed internet and a wireless router with our PC, but my Wii-which is located on the second floor of our house in my room-won't pick up any signlas. :?:

I know Nintendo makes the Wi-Fi USB adapter, but I thought you didn't have to buy one (not that they're that expensive) unless you didn't have a wireless router, and network, which we do. And the Wii is supposed to have pretty good range, as far as picking up signals goes.

I don't have a Wii but I do have a DS, I think the Wifi setup is pretty similar. You shouldn't need an adapter if you have a wireless router, all you should have to do is put the WEP key and SSID into the Wii.

I'm not sure where exactly you're having problems Dave, but have you configured the network settings on the Wii console yet? There's a bit of setup you need to do before you can go online/shopping/update.

You need to go to the Wii Options Menu, scroll over to "Internet", set up a new connection (pick the wireless option), and the Wii should take a few seconds to see if it can detect any wireless networks. There should be a bunch, pick the one which is coming from your own router. From there it should be just filling in boxes as you go along the wizard. I hope your network is encrypted, in which case you need the WEP or WPA key which is like a password for accessing your wireless network (you ought to have this written on a sticky note or something).

I don't remember exactly how the process goes since I don't have my Wii with me and it was a while ago since I set it up.... plus my interface is in Japanese :(

edit: Guess you have it all figured out. Congrats and have fun! Beware of VC, those Wii Points get eaten up FAST.

Thanks, I did configure everything, and used the Wii shop channel for the first time last night! I got Lords of Thunder, Blazing Lazers, and SMB2: The Lost Levels! :D

But I didn't see Contra or Castlevania III in the NES part of the Wii Shop-have they both been removed, or just not released yet?

Also, what's the deal with WiiConnect24-can you really leave your Wii on 24/7, on "standby" (orange light)??
