there also seems to be somekind of medalling system in effect, looks similar to Ibara BL or mushi futari in that you suck in gems from within a certain range..

Is it just me or do the graphics actually seem to be not rendered!?

The player ship looks rendered 2d, but the rest looks like straight pixel art to me.

Rank is a good thing, and DDP and DOJ both had it too. Now if you mean Raizing style rank, I'll agree with you there, but I doubt they are going that direction anyway.

I meant the Raizing style. DDP should be about chaining and hypers only. No medal avoidance.

The backgrounds DO look like pixelart as do some enemies. Bosses look rendered to me. Good chance they recycled gfx from DDP, just as they did in DOJ in places.

Yes, hitbox is clearly visible (which kinda goes against DDP spirit, but whatever makes it easier is fine with me).

Yeah, that´s the most un-DDP thing in it IMHO. This, and many of the patterns look untypical for the series (never played DDP2:BS, though). Both aren´t bad things, though, and it´s nice to see Cave isn´t just re-arranging existing sprites and call it a new game, as many other developers are handling things. They just never did a "sequel" sequel, which is good.

upcoming recap article on insert credit dismissing this entry in the series as having recycled sprites from DDP, proving that he does not actually play the games yet again
