I'm guessing the logical way the series is progressing would be having any and all moe stereotypes as pilots, killing perverts in spaceships, and at the end, giant flying pillowcase as the TLB, shooting dildos at you.

Maybe it WILL be a "happier" DDP. Things can´t get much darker than DDP DOJ (outside of Garegga), so maybe they will make this one more, erm... "accessible" to a wider audience.
Redongculous. I thought the DP series was Caves last hope for not completely going the way of anime hookers. But then that hope started fading with the likes of Exy in DDP DOJ.

seriously though, I think it all depends on the way it's presented to the player. In the case of Reco in Mushi & Futari, I thought it was all right because the character is rather original and it's not constantly shown naked or whatever. Some images are a little suggestive but... I don't know why it should bother us that much. In DOJ I don't like the concept so much but the idea of fragile dolls thrown in the heat of battle isn't too unoriginal I guess. And they're not meant to be particularly sexy or anything are they ?

Also, Ketsui doesn't have any girls in it right ?
Unless you count Alice Blackbarn...
With Reco, some of the images are, yes suggestive. Glowing nipples on the INH DVD, for example, but I really don't think that takes away from the game at all. Hell, if it gets more people playing and makes Cave more money and we get more games as a result, so much the better.
Can't say I care about the dolls in DOJ. They didn't have anything to do w/ gameplay, at least not visually. Just give me a good game and the art won't matter much to me.
Sexy maids in DDP though? That does seem rather unnecessary.
So much for getting another dark/apocalyptic DDP. Incredibly lame and tacky, not unique or interesting at all. As Dirtymonk pointed out, they might as well just use Twinbee art. The game itself had better be really good, otherwise Ikeda's got some 'splainin' to do. He wasn't kidding in that interview when he said this was largely a business demand driven decision. But he could have at least tried to give us some decent art for what is such a centrally iconic series for Cave. This is akin to replacing the pilots in Ketsui with angsty goth girls.

It's not like those dolls look too different from what was in DOJ, and they were silly there already. I doubt (hope) that the dolls will have a bigger role than in DOJ either.
Gonna rub one out to the schoolgirl tonight. I'll let you know how it ends.

Jun's dolls weren't overly interesting. But at least he drew them and their faces in such a way that complimented the game's mood of hopelessness. Crass cash in aside, the characters look incredibly generic. Sad that Cave now thinks the only way people will be drawn to their games is by the lowest form of promotion. But of course I'll reserve judgment for screens and impressions of what is looking to become PastelPachi.
I'm fed up of dark, depressing DoDonpachi's. I mean, it's 4 (or 5 lol) games in and nothing's really changed. I loved the lack of characterization and the total lack of humanity in DOJ. The image of Shotia hugging her (or its) downed ship was absolutely beautiful in its bleakness. An amazing front cover. The only thing that she (or it) can empaphise with is another machine, and cruely, the plot has you destroying countless machines. It's been the only STG so far apart from Ikaruga and especially Under Defeat that has made me actually consider the implications of what i'm doing.
But fuck that. DDP's done bleakness, now I want it to make me smile. It died a peaceful death, now lets have fun with its corpse! I second the Guardian Legend idea. The schoolgirl should transform into type A, the maid into type B. The music should be thumping europop. With a strobe light fixed onto the top of every cabinet.

It's too late for suggesting improvements now!
I called this on IRC this morning, before anyone had posted - the response to the characters that is. Doesn't bother me, ships will still be ships, firing bullets at other ships. If putting cutesy dolls on the title screen means it sells more, then that's good for me as a gamer, because more money for Cave means higher likelyhood of more games in the future.
