Contra Hard Corp
Contra Hard Corp
I love and hate this game.
I love this game because It's Contra and the graphics for it blow my mind.
I love this game because of it's four characters you can play with.
I hate this game because it's as hard as hell. How do you know when the cheats you've entered in the mainscreen are working? The characters get killed with one shot. WTF? Aren't these character supposed to be badasses? I also hate the respawning enemies. Those suck.
But I I like this game anyways....
I'm wrong?

Hi and welcome to the Shmups! forum.
Contra Horsp is a platform/shooter/action game so it belongs in OT. In shmups chat we almost exclusively discuss vertical and horizontal scrolling shooters like Gradius, Raiden, ect. Thanks.

Yes, Vectorman is in the same basic category as Contra and Gunstar.dtdg wrote:Dylan1CC wrote:Hi and welcome to the Shmups! forum.![]()

By this definition, doesn't this describe Vectorman?
Don't wanna sound like an ass.
Too late, eh?
How hard is it to find Gunstar Heroes?
Gunstar Heroes is not too hard to find, try our trading station forum here or ebay.

I don't care how "badass" you are, it's not gonna do much to help you against a bullet in the chest, heh heh.dtdg wrote:The characters get killed with one shot. WTF? Aren't these character supposed to be badasses?
Re: Contra Hard Corp
They were not supposed to. in the original Japanese release, they could sustain two or three hits.dtdg wrote:I hate this game because it's as hard as hell. I always considered to buy the JPN version because of this, but let's face it, this game is so ridiculously hard that I probably won't do any better anyway

I still think, the only man who enjoy this more than Contra Spirits is the man who secretly has an action replay in his drawer.
everybodys always complaining about the difficulty in thisone.. whats up with that?
i mean sure its a hard game, but i wouldnt say its much harder than contra 3 or contra SS for example.. takes a little boss memorisation and then youve got it, the fact that youre invincible while you slide is the key to success...
i have cleared mine many a time, always fun to see a new ending

Yeah, or accidentally brushing up against an enemy.BulletMagnet wrote:I don't care how "badass" you are, it's not gonna do much to help you against a bullet in the chest, heh heh.
Maybe their bodies are covered in acid?

I don't agree that it's easier than Gunstar, but yeah, it's not THAT hard. You do get quite a few continues, as well. But anyway, I don't think any codes work on the NA version at all, so you're pretty much screwed in that department unless you want to use a Game Genie.
The only boss I really hate in this game is that rotating pod thing that chases you through the tunnel in the jungle... not that difficult, but because of its invulnerability, the fight becomes annoyingly long.

Agreed. The werewolf isn't too bad either. His Psycho charge shot can decimate a boss in a few well placed hits, and his shotgun punch can be devastating, though short ranged. The humans' guns feel weak, IMHO. (I only wish they had added a "bitches" at the end of his return-to-life one liner.
)
Which proves my theory that furries + Robots = awesomeness.
The slide will render you invincible, young one. Use it.

Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
Re: Contra Hard Corp
Hard corps is better than the rest of the Contra series mainly for its no-liner plot & levels & cool bad-ass weapons, but it can't beat Super Contra III in the graphics & scalling & Rotation department which the SNES can handle.dtdg wrote:I love and hate this game.

I've yet to complete HardCorps though, for a more clear opinion in the gameplay department.
It's difficulty sucks though.

I have pal version so they're all robots in mine, think humans in US or JP
CX 1 blue guy
CX2 Red version of Blue guy diff weapons
CX3 Big werewolf robot serious power
CX4 midget with double jump jet pack and nice weps
If you own a genny its a game to get, up there with the best ( I think still the best contra)

The Japanese box art of Hard Corps rocks arse. In fact, this game had some really awesome art for the characters (except for the bosses in the manual; what, did some American draw them? cos they have a totally different style from the main characters).
I used to play as Sheena for a long time until I discovered the awesomeness of Brownie. I've never turned back.

HAHAHA best thing I've read this year! You were ironic, weren't you?
Anyone who tried the coin-op cannot even look at the MD version.
On a completely different point but wow, you actually used the proper word "ironic" in place of the popular but incorrect term "sarcastic." Praise goes to whoever taught you English; that's the first time I've heard someone in real life use the correct term in this context.Turrican wrote: HAHAHA best thing I've read this year! I disagree. I played the MD version to death, to the point I could 1 life it in hard level.Turrican wrote:Andi wrote:Whoa. Obviously you forgot about Sunset Riders. While I will never understand why Konami didn't do an ARCADE port (The MD could handle the game for sure), I like what they did with this version... it was faster than the SNES game, with more and faster bullets on screen most of the time.
What's funny is that not the first time Konami brings an arcade home to a home system and make it completely different. That was a very common practice from them (Salamander, Yie-ar Kung-fu, Hyper Sports, among others...)
Come on man... The snes couldn't handle the coin-op, as the Snes version is quite downgraded on its own.
The genesis cannot handle the coin-op. They could have put more effort, but not do an exact port. The sound alone cannot be translated on genesis sound chip.
I mean man, let's be honest here... How can you compare Sunset Riders to Lifeforce NES... Oh, yeah they're both "different" from their arcade counterpart... but while NES Lifeforce ADDS things, MD Sunset Riders REMOVE them.
If you played it to death, fine. This shows that Sunset Riders is indeed a great fun game, not matter how you downgrade it. This also shows that Konami guys did overall a decent job keeping at least gameplay and fun factor intact.
@Ganelon: gee, thanks! *blush* But, really, irony and sarcasm are quite different concepts; so, rather that a proper English, it's just a matter of knowing the exact meaning of the words you use.
It probably helps that the same two words exist in Italian too.
