Didn´t know that. Sweet.

This means people will be able to play it with their beloved sticks and CRT tubes. I myself am happy to finally have a good portable shmup, even if I still will play it on my couch and not on the bus. (I sure have special needs.)

Bah. I'll support Arika and buy a copy. Should be fun between rounds at M:tG tournaments.

That should go without saying  Remember, if you OWN the game, you can legally use the ROM.

so far, the emulator still runs in a windowed mode (not fullscreen) and is best experienced with your monitor Vertically, of course. also, there's a GL plugin that is pretty much essential because it gives you 2x zoom.
http://forums.ngemu.com/no-gba-discussi ... rsion.html

more info here. but pretty much what i do is TATE my monitor, put it in 480x640 resolution, and run the nds2xgl version, it takes up most of the screen (about 80%) :)

"Legally" isn't exactly the word I would use.

it's in that legal gray area that nobody is going to care about. what about if you dump it yourself? (what percentage of people actually do that though?)

I guess that depends on how easy it is. It's hilariously easy to dump gba roms if you have the right flashcard.

Actually, I totally misread that and took "rom" to be the eventual actual Ketsui rom, not the upcoming DS game.

We have so many Ketsui threads right now that confusion is likely to happen. KETSUI DS DUMPED ON EMULATED CELLPHONE ROM IN MICHIGAN?

Ketsui Meet live stream

Right now IKD is talking to someone.

EDIT: Seems they're talking about DDP DFK

edit again: It was Mihara and IKD, but they I only caught the last 10 mins and it seemed to be random stuff. There was mention of a death smiles CD, sounds like it will be coming out some time.

Seems like the actual event is over, but it's mihara's feed... for some reason they've left the webcam on and stuff is happening. They were playing thunder force 3 earlier.

...and now it's showing the recorded one. cool. I'll try to translate what I can.

...or not, it's just the trailer. bah.

Now it´s showing some more gameplay. Not that different from the trailer, but it has some more bullet patterns and sound effects in it. It´s sad that the stream is a bit choppy.

I want this so bad.

New 8-minute clip.

Looks frantic enough for a Cave game, yet managable with the DSes limitations (small screen and so-so d-pad). It seems that this is a demo of the different difficulty settings. And it has green bullets :!: And I´ll say it again: If the d-pad on your lite sucks, sell it and get a new one - the "broken diagonals" seem to be a problem of the first manufacturing runs.

God, I can´t wait. If only somebody would have leaked that demo...

Whoa. Have you noticed that the last two fights (highest difficulty setting, I assume) actually have more bullets than the arcade version? This is the real deal. The last pattern is pure hell now. :o

[EDIT]
Better video here, it's 30 fps and with tolerable sound. Apparently, it's back from September, and we've missed it. :|

Is there no stages in this?

There will definitely be stages, but it's not yet confirmed how different they will be from the arcade version. Since the game has three difficulty settings, we'll most likely have no loops, and the easy setting is said to be really easy (while the hard seems to be at least as hard as the second loop, judging from the beefed up DOOM demo).

Only 1 stage so far, and it's only for the wifi linkup versus mode, so don't expect any stages for the normal 1P game. It's based on Stage 5, but has many different enemy patterns and enemy placements, and on the demo it ended at the "tate-ana" tunnel section (about halfway through the arcade Stage 5), where Doom popped up.

There isn´t a specific release date yet, sorry.

Just a thought - do you think that if Ketsui DS becomes a success the chances of other ports of Cave games for handhelds might increase? PCB owners might moan at this, but take Death Smiles for instance - that would make a great handheld title. I am not saying I wish for such conversions instead of console ports, but come on, Cave even made these rubbish cellphone versions of their arcade games. So it´s not like Cave wouldn´t do it because it´s "un-arcadey", it´s just simply a matter of how much profit is in there, and seeing how insane the DS sales in Japan are...

Maybe we just have to wait and see if bullet hell is even playable in a satisfying way on a handheld. I for one are happy that we are finally getting a modern manic shmup on a handheld console, and seing that handheld gaming is getting bigger pieces of the gaming pie now I don´t see why there could be coming more of that. Not that three different difficulty modes in Ketsui DS won´t last for at least ten years for me

I don't think that even the current Ketsui 'port' would really give the PCB owners much to moan about--as of right now it seems different enough in its implementation that it shouldn't (presumably) devalue the original board in the public mind or whatever.

That said, I would kill a man with my bare hands to be the first in the preorder line if there were a Deathsmiles port to the DS. Hell, I think I'd do the same if there were an upcoming port for the PS3 or XBox 360. It's not the hardcore gamer's dream machine by a long shot, but at least the DS has the 2D capability to do a good job with the graphics; cart size to store the images (something that could be dealt with through creative compression) seems to be the major limiting factor in the case of Ketsui DS rather than the ability to properly display the sprites and background.

and its not even a cart size factor, since there's alreaady 2048Mbit carts for the NDS, and i really think thats enough space for a handheld game (if you take out pre rendered CGIs and stuff)
