I'm going to sue Shmups!
Only joking! But I'd like to go on record by stating that since I've joined this bloody place it's cost me a lot of money that I would not otherwise have spent! I keep reading about all these fantastic sounding games I don't have which forces me to go out and buy them.
A good example of this is my recent purchase of a Japanese Sega Saturn just to play Battle Garrega on it. No doubt Radiant Silvergun will follow.
Where will it all end?
Anyone else in the same boat? Perhaps we could bring a class action?

Skonec, Triangle Service, Warashi, Moss, Shinen, et all not withstanding you mean...Getting into this hobby and persuing everything you want can cost you a small fortune for sure.Specineff wrote:Against whom? The only companies out there still making shmups are Cave, Milestone, maybe Treasure and G-Rev.
The joy you'll get from the games will be the best counter argument in court for the companies though.

Same problem happened with me. Since i joined I bought a lot of stuff. Radiant Silvergun, Border Down Reprint, Matrix (Sealed), Gigawing 2(Sealed), Virtual ON Twinsticks, Parodius series, Strikers series, Blast Wind, Metal Black, Twinkle Star Sprites and many many more.Tigershark wrote:Only joking! But realistically, I probably would've bought those from somewhere else anyway and it would've costed me even more

Well there is no limit of how much you *could* spend on shmup games... Once you have all the great console titles, you could start collecting 2nd hand PCBs, some deep pocket member here even bought them new...
Not all people could afford this kind of spending, even for someone have a full time job.
My suggestion is buy all games used, keep those you like most and sell all the others. And keep away from new / simi-new PCBs, unless you think you are one of those deep pocket member.
Finally, be have a budget, it is very easy to over spend, it is very painful to find that you have to sell your copy of Radiant Silvergun cheap when it's time to pay rent or tax... Some members (including me) had experienced this in the past.

I find that stg hobby is not that much expensive...of course it's not cheap but not that expensive.
I always see other people hobby like guns, art, stamps or even keychain etc...!!! wich are all really much expensive than stg.
I've seen some keychain going over 1500usd...
...
So you see, your hobby could be worse than stg !!!
Also if you're really enjoying it than it's worth it !

Wow. You honestly bought into the "drink the Kool-Aid" idea with that title, eh? Probably the worst reason I can think of to actually buy a Saturn, much less waste time playing.Tigershark wrote:A good example of this is my recent purchase of a Japanese Sega Saturn just to play Battle Garrega on it.
Now Radiant Silvergun, on the other hand...totally worth it. In fact, Treasure titles in general on that machine are things of legend, and not without proper reason.
But Garbaggia? Er, I mean Garrega? Yike.

I like Silvergun, but I like Garegga better.
And yes I own both games.

Well, then, at least you thought ahead, and if BG is your cup of tea, more power to you. I doubt you could pay me to play it again. Then again, the bullet hell shmups really aren't my cup of tea overall, either.Tigershark wrote:Well I took the precaution of playing it on Mame first so knew what I was getting into. As much as I like the bullet hell games of Cave they can get a bit monotonous after a while.
I have to say that I'm enjoying BG a lot!
Glad you like it.

congrats on the SS and BG! remember to get good at your games before you just buy a ton and get lost between them all. For saturn i highly recommend Layer Section, Soukyugurentai (the second release btw), Batsugun, Dodonpachi (not perfect port, but still classic must have). Really the list can go on and on, but again stick with what you have until you really NEED a new game. Oh and also as much as I love Radiant Silvergun, you might want to save it for when your skills reach a high level and keep in mind it is somewhat a puzzle game when played correctly with color chaining and all.
are you using a stick or pad?

Would have saved loads of money if you simply modded a regular cheaper EURO/USA Saturn and just downloaded an image of Garrega & Radiant SilvergunTigershark wrote:Only joking! TS.
Or you could just go the MAME way, most are perfectly emulated.
No way is Radiant Silvergun worth 150$
No game is worth that much!
Just a suggestion

I still remember when I was student a few years ago and got a job as a waiter in an expensive restaurant just to fuel my import videogame and epsecially shmup hobby.Meh.First purchase was Ikaruga with a DC-X GD.And the second was Border Down and Ikaruga Appreciate DVD.Time to get to the real Arcade market, it will happen.
