Confirmation and news on US PS2 Taito Arcade Classics!!....

Post by dave4shmups »

Here is a description of some of the games that will be included in this compilation, from IGN:

http://ps2.ign.com/objects/744/744248.html

The release date for now is just TBA 2005, and it's being published by some company called Empire Interactive.

Wonder how well the PS2'll handle Darius Gaiden!

In any case, there was no news about wether the game list will be the same for this US release as the Japanese one.

Looks like there's no need to import Taito Memories Vol. 1 anymore.

All we need now is Taito knowing their stuff with emulation and PS2 hardware...

Taito please don't screw this one. I'm crossing fingers.

If they screw this up, I'll forever hate them.

I'd say this basically confirms it: "Also known as: Taito Memories Vol. 1 (JPN)."

Empire's published other Taito stuff in the past (notably, the Cyberfront PC ports of the various PSX shmups) I'll hold out for an XBox port, although my guess is that one isn't coming.

I'm still eager to hear whether they keep PuLiRuLa on the U.S. release of this.

Why not? Katamari Damacy pretty much showed weird games can still sell (despite SCEA's commanding prescence). It's not like it involves piloting planes around New York or anything.

I've never heard of this game; what kind of game is it??

Man, I can't WAIT for this!! :D With this, and the Capcom Classics Collection, the US PS2 will really go out with a bang! :D

Just a simple cartoony beat-em-up with some bizarre visuals. The only questionable part in it is a guy in a sumo-like thong. The SS port used to go for about $60 but now it's only about $20.

Anyway, I don't see the PS2 going out anytime soon...

As I have said before Capcom better take note of Taito's for theirs, they better at least give us 1941. Grrr.

Taito Arcade Classics includes Operation: Wolf. Great. I hope it supports the Guncon2.

I wouldn't worry about it even if it doesn't; the PC Engine version, for example, controls perfectly without any light gun.

Thanks Dylan1CC! :D

With regards to the Capcom Classics Collection; I doubt that Capcom would include the Street Fighter games, which were in volume 5, since those are probably all available on Street Fighter Anniversary Collection-so instead, I hope they give us more shooters like 1941! :D I think it's a definate possibilty.

My only regrets with this Taito Collection is that they didn't include Arkanoid 1 and 2. Oh well.

And Ganelon, if the PS3 is indeed coming out next Spring, then the PS2 only has a year, maybe less, in it's lifetime.

I too think PS2 won't go away so soon. It may be an year, but so far the schedule is:

Onimusha 4
Shadow Hearts 3
Project Zero 3
Final Fantasy 12 (does this really exist?)
Burnout 4
Soul Calibur 3
Shadow of the Colossus

As you see, it's basically another generation of software, with every important brand giving another spin to PS2 before leaving. I somehow doubt they all fit in this year before 2006 spring...

I had the JP release for a short time. It's a really plain and dull beat-em-up with pretty cool graphics. The visuals are nice, but the game bored me to tears.
