Neo Geo Pocket shmups

Post by spadgy »

I've searched the hallways of this esteemed forum looking for info on Neo Geo Pocket/Neo Geo Pocket Colour shmups, and seems Cotton is the only one. Is this truly the case?

It's the only one afaik. You have to remember that Neo Geo Pocket had a relatively short lifespan.

PS. Consider yourself lucky if you have a copy of NGP Cotton; it's pretty rare now.

Euro or Jap cotton? I got the jap one cheap a while back, but I thought it was easy to find.

I've looked around the place a little, and it seems pretty hard to pick up. So there are two versions? I never even though; is the NGPC region-free? I assumed so.

The Neo-Geo Pocket Color handheld is region free...

For spadgy,

Yes, the Neo-Geo Pocket Color (and it's earlier sibiling, the Neo-Geo Pocket handheld) are region free as usual -- one can use either JPN, USA or EUR version NGPC cartridges on any region handheld...

When the Japanese version of NGPC "Fantastic Night Dreams Cotton" came out in Japan, it retailed at 3,900 yen price point. It came in a cardboard-based box like the other usual JPN NGPC games.

In the USA, SNK of America was planning to release the USA ver. of NGPC Cotton game but since they announced that they were no longer supporting the handheld, it never did come out...

The European version of NGPC Cotton is presented entirely in English language text and features a very nice & sturdy plastic "clamshell" for posterity and safekeeping. It goes for some crazy money on eBay these days...good luck on finding the European version of NGPC Cotton! ^_~
