Favorite ColecoVision Shooter?

Post by ColecoVisionist »

The ColecoVision wasn't known for shooters, but it did have a few good ones. The best is Galaxian, which was a near perfect port of the classic arcade game.

Beamrider. Absolutely fantastic game. I liked it on all the systems it was on, but colecovision was probably one of the best versions of it.

Zaxxon and Carnival were pretty good too.

ColecoVisionist: I was the first guy who purchase your book back in CGE 2k7 before the show started (you signed my book). It's still a good reference guide. :)

Now, for shmups on the Coleo I like the Super Cobra port.

Beamrider was fun. I only played the C64 version though.

They should re-release the game as Halo: Project Beamrider HD. No need to change anything as it's already 3d...
It is powerup of laser.

Cool! I remember it well.

Thanks!

BTW. I liked Super Cobra as well. I could beat the ColecoVision version, but not the arcade game.

I liked Looping. I know it doesn't count but I also liked the trackball game Slither as well.

Space Fury: I really enjoyed Sega's ripoff of Asteroids.

Enjoyed a lot of good pseudo 3D shooters on Coleco that weren't quite shmups, like the enhanced Adam tape versions of Super Subroc and Buck Rogers Planet of Zoom. The Colecovision cart of Star Wars Arcade was also really fun for its time (although much easier than the coin-op).

Among traditional shmups I'd say Space Fury, River Raid, and the enhanced Adam tape version of Super Zaxxon. (I imagine if I owned the Time Pilot and Gyruss carts, they would be on the list, but I never did see them)

Both of those count as shooters in my book (so to speak).

Time Pilot was fun, but a little disappointing in terms of being a faithful port. Gyruss was very nicely done.
