And I would really like to be informed on how they work. I'm looking to buy one near the end of the year but I would totally love it if people would give me a lot of knowledge on the whole thing.
I know it sounds really noobish but man everyone has to start somewhere, haha. I bet there is a place that has all of these things answered, but for me I feel it is a lot better if I can get (sort of) a 1 on 1 type of thing. Reading info if you have no idea what the stuff is gets very confusing.
Ok so, i'll throw out random questions and hopefully people will answer them and give me a bit more insight on the whole cabinet thing. The stuff I say may sound really retarded but that's only because again, I am clueless.
If I am to get a cabinet, does it matter really which I get to play a game as long as I have the certain boards and whatnot to place inside?
Do certain cabinets not take certain boards, games and uh...whatnot? lol.
Say I am going to play a vertical game on a normal monitor (non stretched). Does this effect the game at all other than possibly flattening the icons? Is there a way that I can get the full aspect onto a normal monitor?
Is it possible to hook up a cabinet to lets say Windows by somehow gutting the insides, establishing a connection to the internet? If so, then I would be able to access Mame through the HDD and start it up with some online thing so I can play against people at my friend's houses? I would assume you would need joy2key or something to add the cabinet buttons. I'm just wondering if that is possible and I know for a fact I wouldn't be doing this lol.
What is the difference between MVS, MKS whatever etc. It's really confusing and then at times I hear it with conjunction to the Neo Geo video game system.
Why do so many people have different cabinets if they all do essentially the same thing?
Are you able to hook up a 2P connection onto a machine that started out as a 1P only?
Are the main insides of the cabinet very technical that if I screw up one thing i'm totally fucked? Haha, I think that's very important.
And yeah can you guys also just give me a shout out on other things like certain acronyms and whatnot that will be important. I hope this isn't too much i'm asking for. Thanks D:

Geez Louise.. Lots of questions.
Candy cabinets are Jamma specification, if the game is Jamma it will work (if the cabinet is in good shape of course).
Monitors - If the game is vertical and the monitor is horizontal, it will display sideways. You have to turn the monitor around 90 degrees. Same the other way around.
You can put a PC inside some cabs for MAME, as some cabinets have a VGA input. Like an Egret 3 or Atomiswave SD. If you get an older cabinet, you can still plug a PC in there with the help of adaptors.
If a machine is 1p only, you need to find out if you can replace the whole control panel for 2p. This is possible with atomiswave cabs. Costs a bit though.
If you screw around with the insides of a cab and you don't know what your doing, don't post here anymore.
MVS is Multi volume storage, SNK named the arcade system that because you could put 1,2,4 or 6 cartridges in one mother board. So for MVS you need a motherboard (Google MV-1C neo geo, neo geo mvs multislot) and some cartridges.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

You can also buy adapters (or hack your own) to use consoles in a cab.
